  1. So as you can see earlier in this thread, I had a stated intention to buy one of these. But I had the regular/older Aegis interceptor and, well… I didn’t end up buying it. For reference, I don’t wear a dangler. Last Friday in a pickup game, a guy caught me with a riser. Luckily I turned a bit, and it caught me in the neck more than in the throat - but still tagged me just above the neck guard/below my mask.Neck pain and headache for a few days. Better now, but a friend (skater) got hit in the throat that same week by a deflection, and couldn’t swallow… trip to the hospital for him. (He’s also better now). I think I was really lucky. The Pro arrived yesterday. Figured I’d rather pay the $150 CAN and never get hit again than to chance it. Played a pickup game with it today, felt good - but as I’m still a bit gun-shy, I think I would have liked it to be slightly HIGHER, believe it or not! Loved my other Aegis, and bought player versions for the kids; these products are great. For those interested, I took a few comparison pics of the D30 in the older model vs. the Pro. If you’re like I was with the older one, this upgrade is well worth it, IMHO.
  2. Character come-back win against the Pens, THAT’S what happens next!
  3. Murray trying out some new pads, according to the interwebs:
  4. Love so much about this: the way it’s framed, the contrasting colours, the complete aloof indifference of your partner, the steely-eyed focus before you flop. It’s hilarious- well done, sir!
  5. Dude! Welcome back! How you been? You were going to University in the UK - how is that going?
  6. Great thread topic! and I know about parental health issues; my dad is only 64, but has been effectively debilitated with diabetes and strokes. Not easy. I hope you get to enjoy however many skates you get in!
  7. Take a keek at ma last comment; if ye still think I’m nae, then ye dinna ken what yer oan aboot!
  8. Ooh! Ye’ve a wee bairn ben the hoose now! Congrats on becoming a Father, Coop. It’s a helluva ride - but I never for a second regretted becoming a parent.
  9. Sweet set there! Quite the flex with those colours. Would love to see what jersey(s) you end up with! signed, A Shameless Brian’s Fanboy
  10. You can go back even further: Cheveldae had a mostly red set up for years; looked sharp - especially for the time
  11. I hope that you end up happy with whatever choice(s) you make, bruh. I know the pull of family; it’s real. But then mine are always fucking off for their activities, so I might as well too! Lol!
  12. I’ve been busy - started playing in the pick up games with work people, took my kid to Rep team try outs 5 days in a row, where he was one of the last cuts. Transition to running the house league sort outs, get hammered by the COVID I probably contracted during tryouts week, recover, finish the sort outs, become head coach again, organize the parent meeting, help the goalie’s Dad on the team with new chestie info, and now I’m here. We lost ourselves a goalie, my friends, as my 9 year old daughter decided she didn’t want to play hockey this year. I still have her sweet, tiny Brian’s gear, just in case. Men’s league starts first week of October, and we actually got a guy in his 30s, making me the 2nd youngest at 43, and bringing the team’s average age down to about 55. Hope to be on here more often now that it’s all hockey all the time. Now off to get a beer, and fire up the BBQ.
  13. Was looking through old hockey cards that I got from my uncles years ago. A few interesting things here - like early adopters of the Dave Dryden/Greg Harrison combo, coloured gear, and Wally and Wilson sticks (which I’d never seen before). Also saw that when the Whalers rocked the Cooperalls, goalies were apparently (read: mercifully) exempt. Anyway, enjoy!
  14. Best part of my wife making a Guinness Cake? It only calls for about a third of a can. And we mustn’t waste the other two thirds. No, we mustn’t.
  15. Such a legend. Much respect, my Ottawa brother!
  16. Are you saying it gets better… in about 35 years?
  17. My father-in-law in Montreal called me in a panic the other day with this beauty of a rumour: Carey Price going to Boston. Here is the back-story to that nonsense: https://www.hockeypatrol.com/Carey-Price-wife-partners-with-the-Boston-Bruins-138233 I remember when growing up in Montreal, the French newspapers “only” had about 20 pages of Habs coverage in the summers. And even at that, it didn’t have anything like the crap you can find on social media nowadays. Having just referenced newspapers, and then lamenting with a disdainful “nowadays”, I think the only way to end this is with a resounding “GET OFF MY LAWN!!!”
  18. I’ll see your two kids, and raise you 4 years of marriage. Call: See you at the rink! That said, she came home from playing soccer the other night, showered, came down to watch TV, and was like “So…you wanna?” Never know when that blue moon is gonna show up.
  19. So for those of you who have been with their partner for >10 years (I’m at 21 years myself): when you get asked to sub on a random weeknight, do you ever ask yourself where you have a better chance of scoring: at the rink or at home…?
  20. Finally out of the outage here, so catching up after watching Round 1 on Thursday (happy with the Habs’ 1st pick!) Here are the top goalies that went in the subsequent rounds (full list on NHL.com)
  21. As I recall, recent nuptials implicitly preclude your active participation in the business of getting ladies, n’ est-ce pas?
  22. For the record, I am not interested in buying. But I could not abide this oversight any longer… Beautiful set that we all know and love, masterfully paired with a beautifully painted mask. This set - and the detailed post - are so moving that I think my brother @seagoal managed to talk himself out of selling the set by the time he was finished, and could not bring himself to INCLUDE A PRICE! LOL! I always loved this set- GLWS, buddy!
