As anyone here dealt with Resilient Goalie Foam?  I found them on Facebook, it looks like offer Die Cut Kits for masks using dual density Eva or Poron foams

Cawarmar awesome find - will contacting them for samples will keep you posted.

My son ended buying a CCM GFL Pro this summer vs another Protecsport and while the fit is perfect not crazy about the foam being used a bit too firm to my liking

Good work - these are the little finds why I love this forum!

Ive got theitr samples, they are alright, not quite what i want though, really looking for just the soft poron to put in my mask. If anyone knows where to get it in bulk that would be great.

Ditto have a sample kit on order - Matthew was great to deal with,  will advice!

Can someone elaborate on what we know about Poron?  More importantly in the application we are talking about??

Just received my order today, the EVA foam is awesome.  I ordered two sheets of it (they do sell sheets for dirt cheap) and I can't wait to redo my padding, I'll probably go with a Maltese strips approach.

It's THE shit apparently.  I can't really comment on it to be honnest has it's not what I ordred (and I ain't no chemist) but given the very good experience I just had with Matthew, I'll likely order some and redo the padding of my NME3 with Poron to make it somewhat "safer".

The biggest advantage is that it's an open cell foam which improves it's durability when dealing with impact.  The only downside is that it can be prone to holding water.

Cwarmar - thanks I looked this up after my post amazing impact resistance, also was not aware that Bauer uses it in their player helmets.  Unless you sweat like a pig this is probably the best option out there for a goalie mask?

I am indeed speaking about Poron.  Haven't had a chance to try it myself but everything I read about it is pointing in the right direction.  Will probably give it a try in the future sometime.  Matthew at Resillient Goalie Foam Specialist sells sheets of it if anyone is ever looking to get their hands on some.  Guy is awesome to deal with btw.

Cheers.

+1 Matt is a great dude. I bought a poron kit for 960 from him. Veeeery comfortable.

Hey Guys! I just wanted to say thank you all very much for the kind words! Please feel free to fire us an email if you have any questions or I would be happy to help answer them in the thread for you!

Also we did a water test on our Poron foam (here is the result) water absorption is negligible!

Alrighty. Poron is a really cool foam.

Pros:

  • Absorbs energy very well
  • Comfortable
  • Comes in multiple densities
  • Has a long life span

Cons:

  • Unspeakably hot to have in a helmet
  • Heavy
  • Kind of difficult to cut without proper tools if you just order sheets of Poron
  • (nitpicking) I don't like the neon yellow it comes in direct from XPF

Anyways. I have a custom padded Hackva helmet that uses a mix of Maltese and Poron foams. That helmet probably weighs more than my pads lol. I have had no problems with the either the Maltese or the Poron foams holding water and both are very comfortable.

I'm glad to see that smaller companies are starting to make an appearance here!
