TheGoalNet
Hi All, I do inline for fitness. The wheels that came with my Mar's blades got trashed pretty quick. Are these the best for asphalt? Anyone have other ideas? https://www.hockeymonkey.com/labeda-hockey-wheel-hard-aspht-org.html?msclkid=f94ce9d2f27714f3417fb6fa8070d4e8&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=[SB] Tier B%3A HockeyMonkey DSA - US&utm_term=hockeymonkey&utm_content=All Pages#
loki1416
Depending on your weight, yes, those are what you want. For example, 82A (also an are for hard surfaces like asphalt) are for people 180lbs and under.
dreadlocked1
https://hockeytron.com/collections/inline-wheels/products/tron-giga-hz-outdoor-inline-hockey-wheels I am using these and they are holding up well. A couple bucks cheaper and shipping should be less than 10 bucks.

raucebyalien
Personally I'd go for 85A at the very least if you're predominantly outside Since Covid, one of my teams has had an informal roller session. Needing a new set of wheels I decided to get the Labeda Shooters (83A) which are slightly cheaper than the Asphalt model, but even after a few sessions they've got a notable amount of wear on them, to the point that I've already had to switch them around. I'm sure skating in summer heat hasn't helped either (I'm approx 180lbs for reference). Don't remember wear being such an issue when I skated as a skinny teenager in the 90's! loki1416
Well, you CAN find 89A wheels, but they are mostly for speed skating. 86A's can be found a little easier some times and those are 200lbs rated. Personally, I think the 85A's will be fine for you. Just skate smart, avoid choppy/split/cracked surfaces. Don't give the wheels a reason to break down faster. I will say though, I'm 200lbs and I use 85A's in the same skates I use in net and as a player. I'm getting normal wear on them, nothing to cause any worry. 89A: https://www.amazon.com/Players-Choice-Outdoor-Rollerblade-Bearings/dp/B07B4MNVDG/ref=sr_1_60_sspa?keywords=outdoor+hockey+wheels&qid=1558457591&s=gateway&sr=8-60-spons&psc=1 https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=89a&_ssn=skatewheelsforless&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=89a+-eulogy+-revision&_sacat=

The ones you sent are sold out. I found these https://www.amazon.com/KSS-Outdoor-Asphalt-Formula-Inline/dp/B01I2OO4PW Am I correct that the higher number means the stiffer the rubber? Stiffer rubber is less likely to wear out quickly on pavement?
loki1416
Correct. If you scroll down a bit there's a chart under the big blue KSS banner there is a hardness scale. It explains it all pretty well. Didn't know they made a 96A, can't imagine I'd ever use them!

dreadlocked1
Hardness is a preference and recommendation, and what you're willing to spend to replace them when they wear out. I would wear the softest wheel possible I could find for indoor hockey(72 to 74). But have been fine with 84 for outdoor asphalt that isn't too choopy. loki1416
@TheGoalNet Your 10lbs heavier than me, can't believe that would make a difference if we both used 85A. I have a bunch of skates done already and havn't had to rotate wheels yet. So maybe, MAYBE, if I'm rotating on the 20th skate (picking a number), you'd have to rotate on the 19th? But if you want to try the 96A's, I don't think your crazy. Just keep us updated if you do!

I have t stop on paved trails to stop. I skate around 6 miles when I go? I chew threw wheels pretty good and would love to stop them being a consumable. TheGoalNet
One other question, while I have skate all taken apart, I will have to swap the bearings... Should I be cleaning and lubing them? if yes, any recommendations?
loki1416
For cleaning i use: https://www.inlinewarehouse.com/Sonic_Turbo_Wash_Bearing_Cleaner/descpage-STW.html For lube: https://www.inlinewarehouse.com/Sonic_Super_Oil_Bearing_Lubricant/descpage-SONOIL.html I'll put a drop of lube on each bearing about every 3rd skate (hot and dry weather here). Cleaning I'll do about every other month. Both are probably overkill, but I like to take care of my stuff. Your mileage may vary of course. With just doing it for fitness, it all depends on the surfaces your on. Good rule of thumb for cleaning is every 3-4 months for someone doing your type of activities. Is there a lot of dirt/sand/crud on the surface that your always going through? That will play a factor in your cleaning schedule. Note: You can probably find these cheaper elsewhere, but I just linked so you have something to see.

dreadlocked1
Nice work. Make sure you rotate your wheels when the wear is noticable to maximize the lifespan of ypur new wheels. Those old ones were not rotated. I also see the bearings are not sealed. That will definitely cause them to get dirtier faster.
Isles12
A little late to the party here... but I think revision makes the best outdoor hockey wheels the orange asphalt ones. With regards to durometer the main negative you’ll see for a higher number is ride comfort. Since the wheel is harder it won’t absorb the bumps as much. On the positive side it should last longer, this really depends on the quality of the wheels, and you’ll be able to do slides easier

I am going to get this cleaning kit as mine are a little rusty from sitting for almost a decade, is the lube necessary? Can I just clean them and pop them back in? I mean, even now they spin perfectly fine, they just have a little rust on the outsides.
loki1416
You CAN run a car without oil. But SHOULD you? The lube that is in/on a bearing is designed to last a long time (Ignoring environmental factors). But putting some on will keep you rolling and rolling smoothly. It protects the bearings itself. Here is a good article on why/how you should take care of your bearings. https://bonesbearings.com/support/maintenance/

Not sure if that matters. Pretty sure they're Swiss ABEC 7 or 9 bearings.
SaveByRichter35
I got both anyway. Amazing how much cheaper they are on IW than they are on Amazon. Shipping even worked out to be about the same day.
