Red Monster Wears a Mask of Bone by Jason Livery

So many choices! @seagoal I like red over black - but maybe that'd be your opportunity to go with yellow cord/lace? Would echo the stitching through the bone fragments... but would get away from your kit color scheme...

Yeah, I always tuck the strap end back through the clips, on all 4.

My only other choice at this point is what color my dangler laces will be.   Probably red.

Oh yeah, a lot more blocker saves coming my way as I cower behind it up high for months.

... nah - on second thought I think that might be too jarring. Guess this has re-awoken the long since gone art major in me (thanks for that). Glad you're happy with the lid.

I finally received my helmet today after a week of ground transit from Mississippi to Seattle and I gotta say, openning the box was quite exciting.  There is nothing like seeing a UPS truck in front of your house delivering custom goalie gear.  After the wait and the personal input, it's the best feeling. I was pretty stunned in the best way openning the bag.  I was very impressed with the artwork and the execution from the pics but in person you see the sorta 3D depth of the graphic design which is another layer of impressive and a very welcome layer of depth to the helmet.  I got it just in time for a game tonight with my red/black team and I somehow managed to eat dinner, feed my dogs, pack my bag, adjust the straps on the helmet, and install the dangler.  The straps I got pretty spot on but I had the chin cup too tight, which I will adjust tomorrow.

Anyway, here are some pics of it with the dangler and the straps all tucked in neatly

We ended up playing a very dominant game tonight and winning 7-2.  I played well and stopped all 3 breakaways I saw.  The 2 goals on me were legit and I was not unhappy with either, so the new bucket is undefeated at 1-0 :)

Finally, I got my buddy on my team to help me out with a photo during warm-ups.  Some of you may recall my profile pic on here since I first joined and it was of Pekka Rinne wearing my favorite NHL mask ever drinking from a water bottle.

So of course, I got to stage my own version of this picture, which was fun.

And with that, the story of this helmet comes to a close.  Now it's time to just play hockey and have fun.

That looks sick man!!!

Its too bad you couldn't find or dye your mask straps to match the ones on the mask and then it would totally blend together like there were no "real straps"

Thanks man.

The painted straps color was one detail I didn't plan for. I figured they'd be white, black, or red.  I knew my real straps were black.  The yellow was a curve ball I didn't anticipate but I honestly really like them.  It's an off color but I think it works.

Thankfully real straps on Sportmasks don't show a lot.  I'm pleased with how it all turned out. The yellow straps and threads tie in his teeth tarter perfectly,  haha.

He does do custom painted straps.....real straps ;)

I don't think the black looks bad at all, honestly you really don't notice it much, just thought it might be a cool detail to add if you could!

Quick, easy little mod today for less than $1.  I had to buy a new cage for my helmet after a shot to the face dented one of the bars.  I noticed it scatched the paint on the forehead just a bit from the impact.

You can see the scratch to the right of the vertical bar here

To the left of that bar is the mod I did today, installing vinyl tube wraps to the cage at a few points on the forehead and the chin, like how a lot of Bauer helmets come stock.  This is a great addition to a cage to help protect paint jobs.

This was super easy and quick and it cost me $.89.

Here is the size tube I used which works best for helmet cages

Minor little surgery down the center to open it up

Then just cut 6 pieces to wrap on the cage, 2 pieces on each side of center up top and 1 piece on each side of center at the bottom

I put these on now without taking the cage off since this is the bent one, so some were more difficult to get on than others. Obviously these should be wrapped from the back so the slit is not behind the cage enabling them to easily come off.  When the new cage comes in I'll install the wraps before putting the cage on the helmet so I'll be able to get them on tighter and a bit more cleanly.

As a bonus, this vinyl tubing is perfect for dangler dampening on the chin.  I haven't put these on this helmet yet because I haven't yet been able to bring myself to putting super glue on this paint job.....it's still too new and exciting for me.
