TuneFit was a pro option for 2s so this may be a retail option now that TGN has chosen.

The secretive descriptions I've seen so far of the pad in general mentioned updated strapping.  This may very well just be the tune fit option, but still curious overall since the tab at least isn't stock tune fit.  I noticed the same thing @Deltadre pointed out too, and was wondering if it's a pro-custom (or whatever that program is called) option now, or another part of some new CRS or evolved TuneFit strapping system.

pretty sure a new 960 is coming out

@thinksimple  There were a few images floating around on social media a couple weeks ago of a table of the new stuff and it looked like there were both 960 and NME masks in those shots.  But don't know if it's "here's the new 960 and the current NME" or if there are updates to both lines.  Like Telfo said, the 960 would be the one in line for the update this cycle.

typically it is mid-May.  last year the customizer for 2X came out in March.

Feels like it takes longer every year, but likely it's all pretty much the same.  I remember ordering my 2S Pro set when the pre-orders opened and they were in the shop on retail release day which was basically bang-on 8 weeks.  So yeah, likely another month away from actual details.

  4. @GoalieDad64 (wow there's a lot of goalie dads on this site :P)

@Chenner29 brings up a good point about reading the player that I think hasn't been mentioned a whole lot yet. The weakness with the lacrosse move is that the player has to telegraph it.  It looks distinctly different from a wrap attempt. Although a newer read for us to learn, that's the constant cat and mouse game we play. From the goalie's position on their feet, roughly center net, you can learn to pick up the body language to tell you a lacrosse move is coming vs a tight wrap. This info should dictate whether the goalie comes across in and RVH with active stick or hug post on their feet with active stick, not blind faith in one move.

So as they come out...Bauer 2S prices are falling.  Might be worth the shot

They're all 20% off on the Bauer website, decent size selection in all white still. Sounds like some local retailers might have some sweeter deals too. Definitely worth a look for anyone who might have been on the fence

I feel like a lot of the chirping about durability is being done by people who haven't actually used them to any great extent.

This for sure.  Do you remember the big social media buzz around the potential 1S issues when they were debuted?  "DENTED FOOOAAAAAMMMSSSS!!!"  That one was only going around before any of those people would have actually been able to get a set.

Not offended at all! My goalie partner last year had Bauer 1s pads and gloves. Both pads were broken where a typical single break pad has it’s one outer break. They would bend like crazy because the internals broke. Also, his glove was broken inside because there was a bump from foam and plastic sticking up. Also @coopaloop1234 What models were the boot settling and finger curling happening on? I think they actually were before my time lol

Gotcha, ok.  Those are probably within the sample size of manufacturer defects that all companies have, but seeing it directly can definitely impact your perception.

Bauer has been known to have some quality issues like breaking down quickly. I have never heard of a Vaughn pad breaking down

The documented Bauer quality issues were specifically not with the internals though, it was externals on 1S/1X.  I'm not asking this to be a jerk, but where are you reading anything about the internals breaking down that isn't just random online comments?

Like coop said, I have specifically heard of Vaughn pads breaking down in various different fashions, especially being some of the softest of the big brands.  But I don't want to just parrot that there's nothing wrong with Bauer internals, genuinely interested if there's been internal breakdown issues.

Not a major purchase by any means, but I picked up these CCM Edge socks recently. Will be using them tomorrow. The old RBK Edge socks only had the velcro tabs on the front part of the sock which I thought was weird, so I never bothered trying them out, but these CCM Edge versions have velcro attachment points on the front and back which is nice.

I have never worn the edge type socks until this season (my beer league team was given a pair - antique gold colour which matches nothing I have) and I love them very much. So much room for knee pads and they fit a lot better than your traditional knit socks I've worn my whole life, so I wanted to buy myself another pair to use for my other skates. I just went with black since it will not show any sweat stains and will "go" with my black jersey I wear for drop-in, etc.

Anyone else wear the Edge type socks? I went with the SR size.

I've been using Bauer whatever model senior socks for a while now, for the same reason that they have Velcro front and back. Wish I could still find them, but CCM might have to do when mine wear out (only a couple of holes right now).

I don't wear Bauer, but, for others, where is it on sale?  Thinking Goalie Monkey.

You can buy direct from the Bauer site, which is where that shot is from. I assume that the retailers will have similar pricing soon if not already.

Ultra Sonic has a completely new arm design... does that sway you at all?

I currently have no gripes about the arms on the 2S, so I don't think it would instantly sway me.  But I'll have to see what the new design is.

I'd like for them to update the back strapping similar to the Vapors, or at least do something like they did with the Reactor where it was 2 clips but they were inside a padded pocket and out of harms way mostly.  I honestly don't know what the tiny top strap does on the Supremes.

  12. A couple people asked about the 1S/2S c/a. I only got to use my 2S a few months before a hip/muscle injury, but figured I can post some pics and my initial impressions.

I went through a period where I bought a new c/a every year. Had a Bauer Pro Ultra TGC spec, but didn't like the adjustable arm attachments because they never felt like they sat right. Then a TotalOne NXG TGC spec, but either the arms were somehow too long or I could never get the strapping dialed in because the arms kept sliding down against my gloves. Then a Reactor 9000 TGC spec, which in retrospect there wasn't really anything wrong with it, I just wanted the Vaughn SLR Pro Carbon that was on sale so I switched to that. The Vaughn was a Vaughn, exactly as everyone else describes, fits like a sweater, arm protection left a bit to be desired.

Now to the 2S (this is becoming like those recipe posts online where the author tells you all about their family history and life story before you get to the damn recipe). I got it on sale last black Friday or boxing day and got it because I wanted to try the shiny new thing.

Some stuff I wasn't thrilled about

    - there are a couple of loose or unfinished stitches on the elbow floaters that kind of concerned me, but after 3 months they haven't loosened or changed appearance. But you kind of expect a bit better of a finish on something like this.

    - the loop on the front to tie down to your pants is too low for me, I would move it up a couple of segments on the belly pad (and I will do that when I get back to using it).

    - the straps on the back are still the outdated big and small one sided clips. Would prefer something like the newer designs without the breakable parts.

    Things I really like

    - I don't have the same issue with the arms that I had on the NXG, although they are arguably the same general design shape-wise

    - the wrist straps are elastic now, I always had an issue with the leather ones either being too tight or too loose, so the elastic really works for me

    - there's a loop built into the back that you can tie down to your pants or add a fight strap type of mod

    - it feels light but so solid. It's not bulky by any means, nowhere near a Premier. It also doesn't hug you like a Vaughn though, so it's somewhere in between.

Some final notes. I wear it tucked into a pair of SLR pants, c/a is a Sr Large, pants are XL. Maybe that loop on the front works better on a set of Bauer pants, but there's a lot of overlap when tucking into the Vaughn breezers since they sit so high.

I would describe the fit of Bauer c/a's like an exo skeleton vs. a Vaughn that fits like a sweater. It's not going to feel like it hugs you, but I feel like the air gaps help with stingers. The stomach is fairly conforming, but it uses this 2 layer design that creates more of an air gap to help deaden shots instead of lots of thick HD foam segments.

The arms are laced in, there aren't any extra holes to adjust them by default, but I bet you could add some. The shoulder floaters have nylon straps and no slip clips for finer adjustability. I feel like I may have overlooked this on my NXG and it might have caused my issue with the arms. Man I liked that unit.

I wear an EcoProFoam neck guard bib under it and it doesn't get in the way of my mask when I turn my head. It's not a new NHL spec, but the shoulder floaters feel streamlined a little.

Other than being swayed by some new strapping and maybe a custom colourway because I like to be extra apparently, I don't see myself parting with this one for a while.

If you liked the fabled one95, I would argue this is another iteration on that design with some really modern lightweight materials.

And yet another absurd, tone deaf marketing pitch from Vaughn. Why do they just fail at social media and marketing year after year?

    The inevitable question:

"So....you didn't test your new pads?"

    20200106_175758.jpg

This is in stark contrast to what I can only guess was the hashtag for the original SLRs based on the amount of time their Rep let me keep the demo set: #TestThemForLikeAMonthOrWhateverFuckIDontCare

    What was the welting issue?

The welting issue was more because with that original release they had to fold the cortech skin over itself to cover the corner that was created by having the binding at the back.

That was solved mid cycle on the 1S at retail.

From what I understand, the bar is quite low as far as durability is concerned.

People like to jump on the legit original concerns of the 1S, but easily forget that the pros that used them used fewer sets in the NHL because of the quality of the internals. I think Dubnyk went from something like 4 sets to 2 sets, and Lundqvist they had to basically pry the demo set away from him to give him a new set.

The original retail issues were legitimate, and the pros have EQM's to endlessly patch anything they need, but I think we're well past the concerns about general durability.

  16. @ThatCarGuy where'd you snag that image from?  Reimer's practice pics and this look like they have more of a tunefit strapping setup.  Although Remier has a professor strap and no visible other strap other than the standard one to close the leg channel and the knee cradle down to the calf.  Wonder if or how different the internal strapping is?  I felt like they were on to something with that neoprene calf wrap sling for fit and response, but it never sat quite in the right spot and the rest of the Supreme strapping was too complicated.
