    huh?

May 20th is a holiday, so release on 21st makes sense.

For what you were probably actually commenting on, I've seen "nd" instead of "st" for dates quite commonly as a French-English translation typo :P

What is shocking is that Bauer is still using the Monster name on their strapping system

I think they've actually done a decent job of limiting it to the "HAL" strapping system and not Monster.  I think I've only seen Monster in a couple pictures on Insta as the screened graphic on the 2X Pro toe ties.

Given that the company apparently never legally existed, what do we think the possibilities of them having no concrete claim to that design is and Bauer ends up just kinda having it at some point?  I'm no expert in patent law and design trademark.  I actually did a search on the US Patent website and only found ProLaces, Toe hook and something similar that had nobody's name that I recognized.  Maybe @djtendy can drop back in for a minute to explain details? :P

  3. My SkinFX experience was pretty similar to @SaveByRichter35 and @jc57, right down to the communication.  Facebook messenger, he was pretty quick to respond initially, then once we were into the details of the design things slowed down a bit.  But when he did reply he had an entire new concept for me to look at, it wasn't just like a minor tweak necessarily.

Mine was the lower end of his range, $250 I think, plus $50 for the backplate.  That's for my potvin graphic with the wings and old Thrashers 3rd logo on top.  $350 will get you the kind of thing others have posted and that you'll see on AHL guys on his insta page.

The vinyl on my mask is several pieces, basically a purple base (however many pieces to cover the mask), and then the chin graphic, the side graphics, the eyes and the top graphic were all different pieces, no peeling issues with any of them.  All the edges and vent holes finished with the clear tape.  That was my biggest fear, seeing how it is kind of folded/sectioned to align with the rounded edges, but I haven't had any issues with peeling.  There was a small blemish on the chin that was either from shipping it from him to Masked Marvel, or from MM to me, but it also hasn't changed in almost 2 years.  Took a clapper between the eyes that pushed the cage up into the vinyl at the forehead, so there's a slight bunching/tearing right behind the cage bar, but that hasn't gotten any worse either.

Doubt it. Michel from Pro Laces is a friend of the Lefebvre family. I don’t know this for a fact, but I’d expect Michel approached Pat about working together.

That makes sense, I knew the deals were pretty different but wasn't 100% sure it was just a pro option for ProLaces on CCM.

I'd still imagine that Bauer got a favourable deal with Monster's financial situation.  At least a lot cheaper than the money they'd spend on R&D and Legal to make a reasonable facsimile that passes their legal standards

I wonder if Bauer approached Pro-laces with this strapping idea? I find it odd that Bauer R&D which is based in Quebec didn't approach a local company making the exact same product. Maybe they did, who knows.

I wonder if they got a good deal with the Monster folks based on their financial situation and/or CCM gave Pro Laces a better deal than Bauer could. I don't think they're the same kind of deal, but might be that there's some sort of non compete built in

They seem to be.  But you'd have to be a full on raging idiot to buy anything from them.

I think it's just tone deaf of Bauer.  Fine, license the tech (not that it's not pretty obvious) but why brand it as Monster?

I'm thinking it's more like a risk/reward on Bauer's part.  Like TGN said, they prefer to license something they feel like they'd just be copying if they didn't have a truly unique version of.  When it comes down to it, it's just shock cord, jenpro and velcro, and we'll see how this plays out but I expect that you won't be seeing "Monster" anywhere on the actual site.  The customizer just lists "H.A.L." straps, so I'd expect they will probably take some initial "MONSTER BLARGH BLARGH BLARGH" reactions and have it blow over so that it's just another accessory they have.

In my experience online, the venn diagram of people who hate Monster but love Bauer doesn't have a whole lot of intersection, so I don't think they're at risk for losing a lot of their customer base :P

Pro hockey life does a really really bad job in marketing, and keeping track of inventory from store to store and online, they also make no damn sense!!!

For example, they have a crap load of skates in store which I saw BUT you can't buy it online if you wanted because they don't have your size.  For example also, if you wanted a product and they don't have it online.....but you know one of the stores 100 KM away has it but not the one 15 KM away they won't ship it for you and will charge you shipping!Which ties to my first point.  It's really messed up.  I argued with them on multiple occasions....I try to stay away from that sore.  Plus I think there are other stores that will get you the better deal like Dukes.

Like you also said, if they mark stuff down in store do it online as well.

Yeah, I was in Ottawa last weekend and wanted to try on the NME VTX mask in Fit 3, but it didn't actually exist in the store.  May have sold in the day since I looked it up, but still kinda frustrating.

On the other hand, I have had them ship something in my size from another store to my local one for free, not sure if that's changed since I had it done.

  8. Went with the auto goop, I don't think it was overkill after all, but I'm sure that loctite gel glue or shoe goo would do as good of a job.

Ideally I would have cleaned the puck marks off of the area to give the goop a proper clean surface to bind to, but this cortech is a bitch to clean puck marks off of and I didn't want to risk cleaning solutions getting inside to the foams.

Got a good amount in the main long cut, some under the triangular cut and then a smooth layer over everything. 36 hours later I was slightly concerned that it was going to be a tacky finish that could be rubbed away, but we're about 3 days out now and it's actually dried out pretty nicely.

Included a pic where I outlined all the little bastards I had to deal with. Only the main long one actually broke through the skin.

I think it turned out pretty well, wasn't a super serious cut, hopefully won't have to get any better at doing this in the future

The next game, they got blown out by a bullshit stacked team from Laval 14-0. You know the type - where the little shits are doing obnoxious cellys after goals 8,9,10, and the fans are still blowing the horns after every goal.

    Fucking up-country kweebec degens...

Good on your son for a great attitude, I wasnt a goalie yet at his age but early on I would have been smashing my stick on the post in a game like that.

After several skates with them tied it, the knots aren't coming undone. However, the string that I used to attach the Pro Laces to the pad is now looser. I don't know why this is happening, considering I tied it as tight as possible. Any solutions?

A little dab of something like Gorilla glue in the knot will keep it from coming undone if you're using non-waxed lace.  I use regular skate lace and it's been almost a year with the same knots.

  11. Got a skate cut that is both a long cleaner cut and a few smaller ones like the blade chattered across the pad (both together, probably from the same incident, just a guy crashing in on a rush, only found it the other day so might have been a while ago).  Planning on tackling this repair tonight/this week, looking for any advice for how to pull it off and make it look as good as possible.

I've got some automotive goop to use, but mostly curious on if anyone has done this and how best to finish it?  Do I just keep the goop inside the cut and let it bond that way, or do I spread some of it along the top of the cut as well with some kind of edge to smooth it out?  I've seen shoe goo suggested, which is from the same company it looks like, and this stuff is also for like vinyl seat tears so I think it should be good for this too.

(will post pics of the damage at least tonight)

What's the durability on these wraps like?

I had mine done by SkinFX wraps like a year and a half ago and it's held up great, no issues with edges or anything.  The only cosmetic damage so far was from a clapper I took between the eyes that pushed my cage up into the mask, so there's a little bit where the vinyl has been scrunched but it's behind the top of the cage and hasn't gotten any worse since it happened almost a year ago.  Other shots off the mask have only left puck marks, nothing else.

    You think so?

I think it's just the angle of the cuff that makes it look almost like the blue area is all glove palm.

I watched that video in the other thread. I like how most of their attitudes, although they don't say this specifically, is "go ahead and take the outer inch away, we're still making most saves with the middle of our equipment" so it won't achieve what they're looking for. If they really wanted to increase scoring, take away the coaches challenges.
