Nothing too crazy to share. The gear's gonna be nasty (the good kind) Pads are thinned out with a smaller side roll, overall weight is lighter than Optik. I'm taking some gear modding/build theories (separate post, still working on putting it together!) I've cobbled together over the past year and have made some requests to change some of the layup of the gear.

  3. See, when my guys fall down, they are actually carrying the puck They skate pretty well without it. Then again, they have to, because they usually are chasing after the puck carrier because they got smoked with a head fake at the blue line. lol So, whether or not your dude clipped an edge, I'm still envious that your guys are squaring up to the shooter inside the face off dots
  4. 8 guys, 1 net I skate occasionally in practice environments with kids back in town from their junior, D1, and pro teams This post just made me realize that I see more shot blocks in those (again, PRACTICE) sessions than on my own beer league team

I wanna say I have either the 1915 or the 2015. I told him the 5500 was my old favorite glove and he built something with a similar feel. Couple reasons why I think it's better - Cleaner break than the 5500. I felt like the 5500 had two breaks, one like the CCM600 and the other like a CCM590. The Kenesky one has a single defined break that feels very natural, slightly more toward the thumb than a CCM600 True one piece. The 9580 that came out a couple years ago was a two piece glove internal with one piece of jenpro covering it. Larger cuff opening in the back. Better mobility. For your second question. with the Velocity style glove, I felt my hand is cocked forward ("fingers in front of heel") like I'm palming a basketball. I get the performance benefits of it, as it puts you in the position to smother the puck from an aerial angle, but it just feels way too unnatural for me.
  6. Metaphysical question, like the tree in the forest. If a product is never delivered to a customer, does it ever exist?
  7. I got some good stuff off Amazon, but I'm in the US. 3/16" thickness is what you're after.

I was a 5500 guy for a number of years. The biggest issue for me with the Velocity style glove is that my hand felt cocked forward whereas with the 5500 it was more of a neutral position. I believe you can still custom order the 5500 from your desired retailer. Barring that, Kenesky makes a glove that IMO is superior to the 5500.
  9. When held perpendicular to the ice, a tilt in the board like that is designed to mitigate aerial angle of the puck and keep the puck from popping up and over (helps goalie maintain eyes on puck). This is the main purpose. If you are in good position with sufficient depth, you will rarely need to extend the blocker so the toe points to the boards (parallel to the ice) Here's Greiss with a textbook example.
  10. They are both good sticks and you can't go wrong either way. I think it depends on what you are after. Want curve selection and a stick that will last forever? Go Warrior. If you are a gearhead like me and like tech, the 2S Pro is the way to go. It's the better performing stick. I do have concerns about durability because it's so light, but haven't experienced any issues yet. I was initially reticent to try it because it's only available at retail in the P31 curve (yuck). I've learned to love it, like Chinese dim sum. Looks disgusting, tastes amazing. It's significantly lighter - I handed the other goalie mine at the end of a skate and he told me to "let it go" thinking I was still gripping it. The vibration/feedback from a shot hitting the heel or paddle is significantly less. You feel it maybe a smidge more than a traditional foam core. The flex is a bit whippier, which I like.
  11. Has anyone gone and read the new website? Some incredible snippets off the HAL page: "OUR PROPRIETY (sic) DRAGON SKIN SYNTHETIC LEATHER IS LIGHT AND FLEXIBLE WHILE BEING EXTREMELY DURABLE. " "WE SEE A LOT OF COPYCATS USING MARINE GRADE VINYL. THAT MIGHT BE FINE FOR ARTS AND CRAFTS BUT HOCKEY ISN'T ARTS AND CRAFTS. " I'm waiting for Billy Mays (RIP) to pop out and exclaim, "But wait, that's not all..."

TBH I’m not sure. I was told the 1 piece is a 4mm blade, not sure about their 2 piece I personally bought a boot only and had Vertexx holders mounted.

Bauer only makes a 3mm holder. The STEP steel is 3mm where it plugs into the holder. It flares out to 4mm after that.

Re: 4mm steel options. Not true. STEP Steel offers both 3mm and 4mm steel that fits in the Vertexx Edge holder. You’ll have to order from a Canadian retailer. The Goal Crease has them.

Graf 7500 boot can be used to go without the cowling. It's a full composite boot, a lot of rumors floating around that it's actually CURV composite: Bauer saw it after licensing the material and Graf had to change mid run, so these boots are kind of hard to find.
  17. Guys, what's it say under my username? EDIT: Nothing yet
  18. You may find that over time, that giant knot is going to pull through the hole in the HAL strap. My recommendation is to get a neoprene or rubber washer from your local Home Depot/Lowes/whatever and rest it between the knot and the HAL tie. I believe Monster uses 3/8" diameter shock cord, you'll want to find something in that range to fit the elastic cord. The washer helps distribute the load better across the surface of the material they use (it's not Jenpro or Clarino. It's much thinner). Having a (mostly) flat shape is going to be better than a round knot.
  19. This is an interesting topic, and it comes up every once in a while. As long as gear is being sold for profit and graphics/design are a part of marketing, these sentiments will never go away. A lot of people shit on Battram and Simmons, and call them "less reputable" companies partially because of their willingness to put another company's graphic on their gear. I'm not defending either of these companies, as I do not and will never own a piece of their gear, but I thought this would be an interesting piece of trivia. Back when Pete Smith left Vaughn to re-launch his own branded line, he released the SP1000 goal pad. This was a fantastic piece of gear and truly ahead of its time. I wore Pete's SP6000s for a period and they were some of the best pads I have ever had the pleasure of using. After Smith left, Vaughn coincidentally took the Vaughn XP to market. This pad was basically a senior level pad around the year the Velocity 2 came out; I wanna say it was marketed as a standalone line, and not as the senior version of the V2. Even senior level gear at this point was moving away from nylon on the sliding edge of the pad, this still retained it. While I'm at it, take a look at these two chest pads. Brown vs. TPS Xceed. Note the Brown is a newer model so the arm floaters are newer spec, and the chest plate is a new addition. The Xceed was built to old NHL spec.
  20. They shut down for a while to do a Humboldt charity thing. Some folks have gotten emails about a "moving sale" which is weird to me, because they made a big hub-bub about moving into a new building a few months ago. Jeff has also taken some time off for health issues, hope he is OK.
  21. No idea, I just post here. The first pic isn't even a "Russian spec" c/a as it doesn't have the segments in the shoulder wings.
  22. It looks like a shade under $800 USD. I had to double check the ad to make sure it wasn't Canadian.

Shoe goo! Give it 48-72 hours to set. They produce two kinds, clear and black. Make sure you get the clear, apply a thin strip along the cut and spread it with a thin, disposable flat edge.
