  1. Picked up some pro return Varlamov Vaughn pants, look like Velocities. They're the new slimmed down version with the double hip pad. I wanted to try something new because my CCM 13As already have seams coming loose (at the crotch and in the bottom of the thighs). The thigh blocks are roughly 1/4" thicker than the last pair of Velocity pro returns I tried. Outermost hip pad feels like it's padded with HD foam, the inside one is much softer. I think the stock Velocity pant has a soft foam piece here. It's a very well-made piece; I haven't been drawn very much to Vaughn's recent offerings, but it's good to see they can still do a great pant.
  2. Shawn Schroeder (kicksave from gsbb) could probably refurb it. Olympia Composites can make custom cages.

  4. Browsing this thread and realized I somehow neglected to share my new mask. I think I posted in the Pro's Choice thread. It's a Pro's Choice 961 with paint by Frank Cipra. I originally planned for it to be a Roy tribute with his Canadiens design, until I thought about it some more and realized what a waste it would be to have Cipra paint such a simple job. So we added some stuff, but my overall plan was to keep it simple and recognizable even from a distance. Here you go...

That's actually a really nice way to distinguish demo pads. Hurray for digital printing
  6. Same here. The old CCM goalie cut was a nightmare. Huge arms, short and wide torso. My butt end would get caught in the sleeves when I went to poke check
  7. I’ve got 2 goalie cut 58s from the Q. A white Bauer and a black Nike. I honestly like the fit and weight (they’re heavy!) a lot more than the CCM/Reeboks.
  8. IMO you want to be slightly pitched forward anyway. A lot of beer league goalies I've seen around here look like they're doing wall squats. Having your skates/steel pitch you forward makes it easier to get your shoulders and forward to sort of envelop the puck as it comes in.
  9. Only wore that one because I couldn't find a Kings jersey. LOL
  10. Surprised I haven't posted myself in here yet. Action photo (action optional) - one of my teams got to rent the ice at Honda Center back in November.
  11. I think Smith's chesty was posted before. Here's some more shots from one he used in '13-14. Apparently he writes the names of his kids on the shoulder (last pic)
  12. I zoomed in on this. Looks like there's a layer (or two) missing.

A retailer will be able to answer all of those questions for you. Vaughn does not deal directly with end users.
  14. All done. Headed back to Dom for clear and hardware.
  15. My mask at Cipra's. It's been a dream come true working with him! Can't wait to see the finished product.
  16. Same here. I had a pair of 9Ks that I ditched in favor of V5s because of the added mobility. These new pants are more mobile and more protective than the Vaughns that I had. I would routinely get bruises on the thighs through the thigh padding with my old pants.

What size are you? I have a 9500 I'm trying to get rid of. Large with smaller arms.
  18. The bag and the package it comes in is HUGE. It's also pretty heavy. No way to get around the shipping cost whether with DIM weight or weight of the package itself. Others have advocated the Warrior bag. I was using that before the Passau backpack. I had no issues with it, lasted forever. Well-built. I just wish it had more compartments.

I'd assume it's the cage. If @GoalieGuy101 got the standard Tri-Cat, that would explain it. The cage is very heavy. Mine is from 2007, can't wait to get my new one... I believe the new CCM shells (not the Protechsports; the distinction is there - not the same anymore) are custom padded, not molded. There's been some pictures posted of the shell with the pro's name with a fit designation to notate the type of shell they got.
  20. A couple possibilities here: They changed stick factories year over year. They changed stick factories mid-run. They changed their standard of measurement year over year. I can tell you the sticks I have seen at GoalieMonkey (reputable retailer, does a ton of volume) all match paddle heights - I'm one of those OCD guys that will sometimes go organize the stick rack by paddle height and pattern as I'm browsing; this leads me to believe one of those sticks may be an older stock. I wouldn't say it's concerning as every manufacturer sizes their sticks differently.

Unsolicited suggestion: You could also ask for Nylon knee wings on the sliding edge - it will feel tackier on the ice than tape.
