  1. Interestingly enough, one of the kids I coach is, and has been, on his first 9X3 stick since last May. Good luck, I suppose.
  2. Senior model, like with PX3/9X3/7X3/5X3. Same is the case for the HZRDUS release: PX4/9X4/7X4/5X4.

    Gear changes

I occasionally get to demo stuff and I love noting microscopic changes in how things feel based on whatever. I've really been sticking with nearly the same idea stuff for...about 7 years now. Just moved my pads over to being stiffer with new ones I've gotten.

    Vaughn SLR 4

Yes and no. If I find a piece of equipment that I truly love, I wear it to hell and back. My current examples are: My CA: it's a Warrior Ritual G2 Classic Pro. I love how this thing feels and plays, even if I get stingers in certain spots and it's rather worn after 6 years at this point. My base layers, I wear them until there are holes in them. I typically use gloves until they're too soft in the palm/I get too copious of stingers at my level of play. Unfortunately that usually means they're great for closing, but I don't like having purple fingers. This takes about two years typically. Masks. I have two (for painting), but my 960 XPM is in desperate need of some refurbishing of the hardware. Shell is still perfectly fine. Skates: I will use skates into the ground. My 2X Pro skates started to come apart at the toe a little bit and pinch my ankle. They're still usable, but not comfortable, so I keep them as back-up skates. I like to have back-up units of things typically too, especially if I'm playing 3-4 times a week and coaching for 3-6 hours a week. I also keep my older set of stuff for when I play in "lower" or "old man" leagues since it plays more old school and makes me feel nostalgic to be using such soft gear (even though it's only G3netiks, so not even old construction style, just a soft pad). I'll even loan the gear out to people if/when they want to try playing goalie or need a sudden substitute and I can't cover (since I have my brother's stuff from when he played in college in ~2008 and is much larger than me). I think the gear is fun, I love seeing designs advance, that's often where my opinions are rooted; I like seeing material science percolate into commercial implementation and good design. The things I replace tend to be because there's something about them that really bothers me. I replaced my pants, for example, because I was getting too many bruises in the thigh (SLR2 pro carbon->SLR3 pro carbon). I like playing in the new pads, but I like stiff and I usually find something about the strapping I dislike. I hop between blockers because none have truly spoken to me yet (though if I get a True one that may change, loved how that felt).
  5. Yeah, shitty hip. I get my results/follow up this Friday.

    Vaughn SLR 4

I think Vaughn is really nailing it with this line. The SLR series pants are fantastic, even just going from the SLR2 to SLR3 I noticed a huge improvement (and I already really liked the SLR2 pants). These look almost the exact same as the SLR3 pant, but they didn't need really much of anything changed. I'd be most interested to try the blocker and pads. The thickness of the board intrigues me and I've liked all the SLR pads in the past.
  7. Had the same thoughts in the same order. The G6's seemed pretty big when seeing it in person, to its credit.
  8. That is one beefy calf pillow!
  9. Checking in here: I had an MRI on my hip today (well, yesterday). I did 10 weeks of PT, got a gorgeous ass, took 6 weeks off playing, played and the left hip still hurt (and I got less flexible). The gadolinium injected contrast hurt (and still hurts) like something fierce. I've had it done before from an MRI on my shoulder back in 2017, which is how I found out I have a SLAP tear up there, and that felt like the described pressure and "fullness" within the joint. This one straight hurt the whole time, only got worse as they put more in, and still hurts to the point that my entire leg hurts. I don't have my diagnosis yet, but I'm really suspecting it's labrum damage within the hip that will need surgery, then I'll be back on the PT grind to rebuild the atrophied muscle for months before I can get the clear to even try skating again. I could be doing better.
  10. I'm technically a software engineer and can vouch that a lot of us wear hoodies with the hoods up.
  11. I feel like I see him use half-butterflies more than most of the league. He really does a lot of stuff to simply stop the puck that are more difficult to teach, definitely doesn't look like a robo-goalie that can sometimes occur from someone who is overcoached.
  12. That'd be incredible. The last ones I got were about $120 each, if I recall. His sticks are 25" Warrior V series with the twist curve with no grip on the paddle, but with grip on the shaft. Something about them just feels right when handling since the grip isn't incredibly tacky.
  13. Is something wrong with the RV3 (that isn't the price of new sticks)? Sick find though. I usually get sticks from team end-of-season stock sell-offs. I've found it hard to replace my Alex Lyon stick from when he was with the Checkers though.
  14. I never used them. I would drop them down or have them loosen, then strap the rest of the pad rather tight (which was kind of impossible not to do in the V1). I feel like pads finally caught up to how I liked them to feel back then only in the last few years.
  15. Looking at it, without knowing much, I feel like it's something else specifically because the offset-T. Thanks for the bit about the True blocker, I was really confused looking at it trying to understand what was different from the Catalyst. Was confused/hoping I would (eventually) order the one like I actually got to try on. Yeah, it is rather strange. I find it funny that most the NHL guys are still in the Ultrasonic too, regardless of graphic. It's like Bauer really got it right for that market with that pad and the guys all paused and went, "nah, this is great."
  16. The current rumor is Mrazek since he didn't practice with the Blackhawks (and Perry?). We'll see, I guess, but he's done rather well on a terrible Blackhawks team.
  17. Came here to post this/see if it had been posted. Here's the link to the full post: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cz_0FMMgkkC/?hl=en I would really like if they posted literally anything about their specs; I want to know what they're calling the break angle and what's supposed to differentiate the blocker. I think it's interesting that even the double-T is offset, since the stock is single-thin-offset. Similarly, it's kind of nuts to me that True hasn't posted anything (even in their own catalogue) regarding the PX4, only the 9X4. I'm kind of struggling to determine the main differences between the HZRDUS and Catalyst other than the stock boot angle, stock flex profile, and I'm supposing the HZRDUS has a harder face. The blocker is apparently a "615" and the pad has stuff about it being flat/stiff for bigger rebounds. The 9X4 skates look/sound incredible, though.
  18. I can't find one, though I swear I had one at one point. I've got a lot of stuff to still go through in my closet in my recent clean-out, so maybe it's in there somewhere. Anyway, here's some other choice hockey memorabilia I dug up while looking for it. The stick is the '93-'94 Portland Winterhawks (featuring Scott Nichol, Brad Isbister, Lonny Bohonos, Adam Deadmarsh, Scott Langkow, and others). The Portland Buckaroos pucks are both made by the "Converse Rubber Company" which I think is just super cool. We used to have more mini-hockey sticks, but we broke quite a few playing with them over the years. I know for a fact I had a Saskatoon Blades stick and there was at least a Portland Winter Hawks stick (I think also Spokane Chiefs).
  19. This is a reminder to myself to see if I have a Tacoma Sabrecats puck still. If I do and ever meet you at some hockey thing, I might be willing to let that piece of defunct history go.
  20. My understanding of these is that ozone can damage elastics (negatively impacts rubbers and nitriles too), can fade dyes on nylon, and might not be the best way to go. Those are the main reasons I never invested in one/figured out how to build one.
  21. Air it out as much as you can between playing, you can try one of those deodorizing sprays (I liked captodor when I used it, but it's spendy), or wash it every once in awhile. Some people like doing an Oxiclean bath, or other such things. I typically just take it in the shower with me with a little detergent and a soft bristle toothbrush to really get in there. Not always smelling great, but not putrid either.
