  1. Definitely unfortunate. I took a chance on a "used" but basically brand new set of Fusion pads and love them! I was looking to save some money and get a matching set of gloves but I guess that won't work haha. Hopefully they eventually come back to the goalie business.
  2. Bobrovsky in a Pros Choice bucket instead of CCM
  3. Mrazek using some kind of blade tape. Not totally new as he was using it in Toronto also.
  4. Typically they should be good if they are the same size. The 9035's I converted are a graf size 10, but I pulled a 9-9.5 cowling off them; my DM's which are size 10 wide, I pulled a size 10 off. I would stick with the same size boot and cowling to be on the safe side. In all brands they usually make one size cowling for a whole and half size which means a size 8 and size 8.5 both get an 8 cowling. For what its worth in a previous set of skates I mounted size 9 Bauer supreme 7000's in a size 9 graf cowling with room left over. 7000's were great boots @SaveByRichter35
  5. I think cutting out the Bauer cowlings increases the attack angle of the cowlings, but I don't know for sure if it would be the same as cowlingless. My immediate thought is no, its close, but not quite. You do not have anything you have to trim with the holders, and I could be wrong without having both in front of me, but I believe the holders will sit higher than the cowlings to begin with. So, you would get rid of the cowling that hits the ice first, but the area of your boot that would hit the ice first is still lower to the ice from the start. You would get the protection from the cowling. Have you checked out the new Bauer skates with fit 1,2, and 3? They definitely seem to be more accommodating than previous models. Also, I'm probably one of the few left, but check out the grafs if you have a chance. I've always had some kind of discomfort or pressure with most skates, but the DM's feel like carbon fiber slippers on my feet haha. I know Goalies Plus can still get them.
  6. I'm all for a franken skate! Current setup (left) and previous skates (Right). I've also had the True holders on a player boot that fit my foot well. Looking at the pictures of of the heels, by swapping the chassis', it looks like you would actually lower the Tour's by a couple millimeters or so. So, if you just did the swap I don't think the height would be an issue. With the tours you would definitely need some type of cowling, but at the same time I cannot speak to the robustness of the tour cowlings in regard to ice pucks. Swapping rivets into the current holes would not damage anything, as they should be replaced anytime they start to show wear. You, or whoever would do the swap, will need to drill new holes to fit the respective chassis as roller and ice are nowhere close to the same position. Comfort is worth the experiment. In the end you need to be comfortable, but have proper protection at the same time. If you can accomplish both of those with the swap, go for it. Playing with foot pain will hinder your performance and most of all won't be fun.
  7. Does anyone know of a cheater cage that will fit a size small Sportmask? Or, a company that would make a custom cage?
  8. Either, buuuuuuut I was looking to save a couple bucks if possible
  9. Looking for a size small Sportmask, preferably T3 or PRO 3. Thank you!
  10. Does anyone have any input on differences in fit for a T3 vs Pro 3? Just looking at stock pictures, it seems like the T3 tapers more from the cheeks to the chin? I'm not sure if there are differences in overall depth, or length of the mask. I currently have a Medium Pro 3 I purchased years ago without being able to try on and told it was more of a small/medium, according to measurements I should be in a size small. I love it but it is a little big, I have added foam to the cheeks to to get a tighter fit but I still feel I'd benefit from a better fit mask. Any help is appreciated!
  11. Yea they are pretty low! I've also found that Graf's profile always had a little more rocker to them, somewhere between a forward/defense blade and traditional goalie blade. Something that I personally liked, but when you're use to a flatter profile it can shift you to your heels and make you feel off balanced. Out of all the cowlings I've had, I liked the Grafs the best because of the profile and how solid they felt.
  12. Took a few pics of spare parts to show some differences in height. 9035s with first gen true two piece holder,G50s with newer graf cowling (uncut standard height steel, black graf cowlings with higher stock steel (also uncut),and DM1080 with graf two piece holder. True is a few mm higher than pro g holder, where as higher stock steel on the cowling is a few mm shorter than pro g.
  13. The new setup! It is all graf but not the stock cowling. Only used it briefly so far but I think it’s pretty good!
  14. @motowngoalie I like them a lot, I have no used the vertexx holders but I believe them to be similar (without having them in front of me to compare currently). Pros for the True holders: I personally like the forward pitch to be more on my toes, the 4mm steel (now looking at getting a new set of boots and the graf 5500 holders), the stock profile of the blade (seemed more similar to grafs cowling profile), and I liked that it was the same as the player holder. I use to do more coaching and this allowed me to swap between player and goalie steel without switching to a different skate. I also like the blade being a bolt on attachment, instead of a spring mechanism.
  15. I know you said kettlebells for upper body and core, make sure you mix in some resistance exercise like that for the legs. Obviously lower body strength and power benefit goalies, but will also help with balance. Also if you're looking for something spicy, add in some jump rope workouts. If you boxed I'm sure you've had some experience with jumping rope haha. Great to hear it is going well for you so far, keep it up!
  16. Just wanted to add, I went ahead with the swap. I got to try them out last night, needless to say but way more stiffness than my Bauer x2.7 skates. Very responsive, but will take some time to get used to. Not sure if it is in my head but the skates felt even better once they were mounted to the new holders and out of the cowlings. Overall pretty happy with the result!
  17. Actually looking to do something similar! I don't have huge funds but wanted to build the all purpose skate. Currently I have Bauer Vapor X2.7 with True Holders (V1) so I could swap between goalie and player steel in the same skate. I just found a deal on some 9035s and pulled the trigger. 10D/R in both skates, but the Vapor seems to have more room in the to box, where I may be brushing the toe box in the grafs. The grafs feel amazing every else but there for me at the moment. I have only tried them on a few times for a couple minutes and would like to have them on my feet for a bit longer with my sidas insoles before I put the work into the holder swap. I've also noticed that the Grafs seem to have a slightly higher/more supported ankle, but still great forward flexion for your stance. Graf always put outsoles on their goalie skates just like a player skate, so I don't see why you couldn't put a holder on them. If I move ahead with the project I'll upload some pictures. Hope this helps!
