The inertia of these wheels and the ponderous steering make it tough to ride.
bunnyman666
Added Shimano hydraulic rear brake to my Dirt Jumper build. I was becoming quite irritated with how I couldn’t stop on the bloody thing. I have a Hope rear disc (203mm), so stopping shouldn’t be an issue, but it took WAAAAAYYYY too long to stop. Normally Avid calipers do the job, but something was off. Also replaced the grips with Lime Green Oury, which are super nice grips. Pix to come…
MTH
The Oury grips are rad. My one son has a pair of lime greens now. He was telling me about them as if they were new to the world. Told him they're OG MTB grips. I have a bunch of Oury decals in our garage from when they were still made in CO. Blew his mind.
MTH
I struggle with the hydraulic brakes. I've gone through every pad out there. Changed rotors, even resurfaced the pads and rotors. I hate them. Bleeding them isn't hard but the fluid is corrosive and I still manage to get it everywhere. I can work on car brakes all day long. No issues. But bicycle ones are torture. I have a single speed with V brakes still. Some of my kids' bike have them too. I think one has a side pull still on it. That's a classic. Lee Chi brakes.

Lizard Skinz now owns that brand, but they have retained the same quality.

I don’t know what was going on with the mechanical Avid I had installed. I didn’t want to tear it down and rebuild it. I will have to, eventually LOL I bought Shimano, which used regular mineral oil. bunnyman666
Another Crew Defender. Amazon cutie rims, Visiontech base bars, Blackwell aerobars and brake lever, Dia Compe Hombre BMX brakes, Sinz grips on base and aero bars. Flite neon green stem pad for the BMX element to go along with the half-link chain. Soon to be installed: WTB ThickSlick tyres in white. I remember what it’s like to ride fast on this bike.
MTH
I bought a few sets of the Shimano pre bled brakes off Amazon. Usually get a full set for under $100. My one son's SE came with a cable disc rear. Was cheaper for a full set than buying just the one

MTH
That's what I'm talking about. The Wheels and tires are a perfect match for that. RIP Andre 3000
