None of us here are doctors who've accessed the OP to determine any pre-existing conditions. We're also not all the same when it comes to the condition of our body, strength of joints, flexibility, etc... I can only give anecdotal evidence that if your cord is too tight and doesn't allow enough give it can indeed cause additional stress on the ankles. Does that mean your knees are going to have MCL and ACL tears? I don't know the answer to that.

I'm not sure about the "weak legs" part because having strong calves and, quads, and hamstrings doesn't mean you're immune to having knee or ankle issues.

One of the other goalies at the rink I play at tore his MCL just from dropping into the butterfly, also uses Pro Laces, and for me even when I had them on the tighter side I did aggressive drops and never experienced any problems beyond some ankle tension. This is why I don't like to make absolute statements when it comes to these topics because we're not the same.

I won't disagree with you on anything you're saying as it can all be valid.

Though, that's still omitting the biggest question mark from the OP's post about the bungees being so tight thst his toes were pointed upwards when in the butterfly.

That shit has me perplexed and is clearly getting everyone else just as confused.

Doesn't help that dude makes a first post and then dissapears immediately.

Clearly this is Dudo's burner account and he's come to spread more slander about bungees.

Anyone else ever take a shot to the outer elbow? I caught a hard wrister there this morning, kind of disappointed in the elbow cup protection on my warrior c/a, but poor technique played a role also so it's my own damn fault.

Pass across the hash marks to a shot just inside the far post. I was a little behind, so I chicken winged it and caught it flush on my right elbow. Immediate dead arm and I dropped my stick, couldn't finish the game from the pain. Anyways, 3 ibuprofen later and it's swelling up, but I have full range of motion again and it doesn't hurt that badly now.

Which warrior unit are you using?

Thanks for the details. Interesting to hear about the differing preferences.

What do you mean about strapping behind your knee? The leg pad knee strap? I've seen normal horizontal strapping behind the knee and then the loose strapping down to the calf area. I tried that but again, felt too loose and like my leg pad was flopping all around.

    Yea, down to the calf.

With different strapping you can tighten it up, but it will be looser.

After doing that for the first time, I could never go back to behind the knee due to the freedom.

Definitely fits in with my desire for my gear to not feel impeding.

    @coopaloop1234 so the G7 runs taller but you're still a 33"?

So does this mean that the flat boot is no different than the risers on the GT2? The difference is in the shin? The knee landing spot remains the same?

Couldn't tell you what it is the cause, but I was landing just low of center on the G6. I was dead on on my rgt2.

FTK is 19.5" which is middle of the 33" range.

So my take is that they run larger, but not by a long shot.

If you're on the cusp of a size, go down for safe measure

Where’d you find Cams email? I want to ask him a question

Cam and I are pen pals and have sleepovers.

Just email the goal department and you'll likely get him responding.

  6. Got to try on some G7's. They run a tad bigger than previous  warrior, so if you're on the cusp, sizing down my be good. But I'm definitely a 33".

Gloves are nearly identical to the G6. Cuff area has been modified a bit, but mostly the same.

Pads are good. Stock set is still very stiff, but the break at the knee was needed. I'm sure it would soften up a bit, but I'm tempted to go to a soft knee break instead of the stock medium.

Boot is more flexible. Not Hyperlite soft, but close.

The change from the hard outer flap back to a more inset, softer flap (like past lines) was way nicer. The new professor strap version is nicer in it's simplicity. Does the same job.

The calf strap is alright. I like the simpler design and adjustability. There's two slots in the calf wrap to make it go tighter if you want too.

Calf pillow is fucking beefy. Thicker than the Hyperlite 1. It's easily removable though, so you can either remove it or modify it.

Aside from that, I can't think of too much else that's changed. They're all welcome changes and comparing it beside a G6 really hammered home what I didn't like about the G6.

I still don't know if I prefer either blocker, they're both fine but feels cumbersome after using the Mach for so long.

Does your chest protector still feel tight enough if you don't tuck? Do you have to adjust it a lot from rotating? I just find that tucking and suspenders help keep it in place better without any movement restriction.

I don't tuck or put suspenders over my C/A.

The purpose of it is the freedom of movement and not being locked in. It's done to get the exact opposite feeling you're after.

There's no real resetting of the unit to get it back in place, it does it on it's own. I've tucked twice, didn't like it. I've also just tied down my C/A to my pants, didn't like it either. Felt like I lost a lot of freedom of movement that comes with twisting at the torso as once you connect the two portions, you remove the independent movements that come with not tucking/tying.

I really hate the feeling of any of my gear counteracting or impeding my movements. I don't tuck, I wear slimmer pants, I don't use gloves with wrist straps or large cuffs, and I strap behind my knee.

I want everything to act on it's own.

Hmmmmm... I could believe that technically they're made to the same dimensions. But what about the change away from boot risers and different boot angles, doesn't that make the pad fit a little differently?

Also Coop, with 19.5, are you landing center on the knee stack in your Warrior 33"s? Technically the chart would have you in a 32" right?

19.5" puts me dead center in the 33" range. 19.25"-19.75".

33" Warrior pads have historically been spot on for me and I'm also in a 33" (small) Bauer Ultrasonic right now that are supposed to run taller than the Vapour line too.

I have this feeling that I actually should be in a 33" and not size down. But we'll see.

I'll admit that CCM gloves are probably the best example of his point.   They're not great and the ones I tried on recently felt worse than the EF4 and Axis gloves that we got in back in the day.  But he's talking about Brian's, and almost every single one of their gloves I unwrapped were butter smooth, and the worst Brian's pro level glove I can think of was still better than anything by CCM/Lefebvre.  He absolutely got a lemon glove, but it doesn't mean they're all, or even mostly, bad.

I'm nothing but a big hater for Lefebvre gear, mainly gloves, but even my ccm premier 2.9 catcher (senior, offshore) glove was easy enough to break in correctly and to have very little issue bringing it into a game.

I saying that, it was still one of the worst gloves I've had for break in time and effort needed, but, it was still pretty benign in the overall picture

So I must have freakishly short calves for my height. I have a 18.5 FTK which puts me at a 31" intermediate on the knee, but I'm 5'8 (8.5 technically). They recommend a 33+1.5 for 5'8 guys (which is what I currently play with, G2's 33" and it works, though I land about an inch low of center on the knee stack). So if I was to custom order g7's, I'd want a 31+3.5?? What is wrong with my proportions haha. Am I getting that right?

The chart that's on the customizer for the G7 is identical to the one previously used for their other pads.

    https://www.thegoalnet.com/forums/topic/2702-warrior-sizing/

Here's a thread from 2019. The sizing chart on that is the same specs as the one currently live in the G7 customizer.

I've fired off an email to Cam at the Hockey Shop to get a better idea of potential sizing issues between the chart and reality. There seems to be some conflicting information lol.

Here is a fancy chart that circles the "edge of the fingers" in red that would be fit to put on the TGN Instagram.

Found TGN's alternate account, no wonder I'm confused, there's no binding there. ;)

Well I haven't had any issues there myself nor seen or heard too many stories of other people's issues either. I'd ask @ThatCarGuy as he's probably the Warrior user here that puts it through the most work, but I don't think he's ever mentioned any issues on his G6.

    So yes?

How’s turning 20 in April for qualification?

And I only ever play forward in mens league, perfect for observing lots of gear when I’m jamming annoyingly at rebounds

So qualify for men's league, but not beer league.

    USA drinking laws are weird.

For the first time in decades, I’ve decided to go mismatch on my equipment and just ordered a R/G7 trapper to wear with Bauer pads and blocker.  Love the pads, love the blocker…kinda like the glove.  I have very fond memories of my G3 trapper with the 75 degree break.  I don’t know why I was so insistent on having brand matching stuff.  I did custom order, though and it should mesh pretty nicely with the current set!

The Bauer pads/blocker and Warrior catcher combo is a mighty fine one.

    No bias here.

The edge of the fingers is what I'm referring to.

I still can't figure out which area you're referring to lol.

The only durability issue I had with my GT sets was the blocker face on my GT1 Senior cracking near the end of my time with it. My GT2 set was already on order.

My GT2 set faced better shooters and more ice time. So take this information however you will.

I'm curious how many youth goalies even watch the NHL or have an idea who wears what. Current gear is so bland and guys change their gear almost monthly.

Oddly enough in the Chicago suburbs it almost seems backwards. I’ve noticed this:

    Brians

    CCM

    Vaughn

    Bauer

Small companies like Factory Mad, etc

    Warrior

    True

    See? Kids snuff Warrior lol.

Anecdotal, but many of my beer league games take place after kids practicing and the young goalies predominantly wear Bauer and CCM.  Even in beer league, it's dominated by those two, with the occasional Warrior and Brian's.  I don't think I've seen any True at my rink at any level.

    5 minutes ago, ilyazhito said:

Warrior is pretty common for beer league goalies in my area. I've seen one goalie with CCM pads, one with Kenesky, and a few with Bauer, including myself. I've seen one or two goalies locally with Brian's pads, but none in Hockey North America. The young guys often wear Bauer or CCM, with the occasional Vaughn or Brian's pad.

    CCM
    Vaughn
    Bauer/True
    Warrior
    Brians.

That's usually the popularity ladder I see at Beer league games. This also differs depending on the divisions I'll play.

Higher divs will see an influx of Bauer and True pads.

Lower divs will see more Vaughn and Warrior.

I was seeing back on G4 and G5 gloves where the binding would come apart due to wear. Was that fixed on the G6?

The used ones on SLS look good to me but I can see something like that happening over time. I've only just had mine this season so we'll see.

    https://www.thegoalnet.com/forums/topic/7492-fs-warrior-gt2-pro-set-3315/

I'd be curious to see what binding you guys are referring to. This was my GT2 set after 2.5 years of beer league (2-3x a week).

My GT set was about the same too.

The binding on the backhand of the G6 isn't too different either, but I still never saw that as an issue.

What size are you @coopaloop1234? I've got a size large that I don't really wear if you want them. They're a bit used, but still in good shape.

Right now I'm trying to find a good setup to wear over my more structured/compression shorts (Mcdavid cross compression) whenever I need the extra support. I think I basically wore out the cross compression on my Bauer core pants so I'm not really getting that extra support.

I wear size Large as well. I'd take them off your hands if shipping isn't too rough. Where are you located?

Good point about the bulk -  I use the baselayer with the sock tabs now, but was thinking of trying something different. sounds like this would cause another issue altogether. Thanks!

There's some baselayers that have cup inserts and velcro tabs. So they'll accomplish essentially what I think you're after.

I know my Oneric has a jock insert.

Man, it's too bad they went out of business, I really liked their shit.
