  1. 2020 trade deadline bump of this thread: Lehner in Vegas, with green pad wrapped grey - looks pretty good, but wouldn't of hurt the equipment manager to get some gold on there too!

    Vaughn V9

I'm still shocked that some companies are like this with social media, especially now other brands are doing such explicit 'social marketing' and gaining interest and traction on their new gear lines in conjunction with other instagram accounts. I get it, they want to portray that the Velo line has a great heritage etc, but #notestingneeded just looks petulant and arrogant - especially now the goalie gear market is more oriented to innovation than its ever been! Get a young intern / graduate to run the social media accounts who has at least some clue on how to read the room with social media criticism - best way to deal with that magnets jibe would have been to turn it into a bit of friendly 'banter' and treat it as an opportunity to outline everything that is different on the V9s, rather than look like a complete douche to prospective customers!
  3. Willing to admit some of it might be how I use sticks - I'm quite active with the blade to break up passes etc and when I'm in butterfly the blade tends to be angled about 60 degrees back meaning the underside of the blade is exposed and takes some abuse. That said, the CCM 1060's have still been a lot more hardy in that respect - probably due to the graphite layers in the blade. (for comparison the Warriors I've had are Swagger TF2's, Rinne pro returns and the retail Swaggers. Also had a couple of Vaughn branded sticks from the same Finnish Warrior / Montreal factory that had the same happen to them)
  4. Were those P1 gloves white with dark green trim?? If so they would of been from his time here in the UK league; he moved over here around the same time I found the GSBB and back then it was pretty novel that you'd have insights from a pro on a BB. As far as my own gear regrets: - Vaughn SLW XP glove (senior level) : came from a well used pro V3 and the SLW was garbage, I can't remember ever catching anything cleanly in it - Bauer NXG C/A: body was great, mobile plenty of protection but the arms were terribly designed and had no protection down the sides - always felt like I was a shot away from having my arms broken. glad to see they addressed this in the 1S & 2S models - Continuing to use Warrior foam cores: they always break the same way after a while...bottom of the blade cracks, foam spills out and the blade is immediately compromised. Bought two CCM 1060s on a whim, and after 2yrs they're still going strong with no blade damage whatsoever
  5. Speaking of retro hockey games, who had this atrocity??
  6. Might just be a U.K specific reading here, but Ultra Sonic as a brand name sounds like it should be on an electric toothbrush rather than a hockey line Re; the new Ultra Sonic vs 3S distinction, are we seeing a similar set up here to how they handled the 2S pro and 2S sticks? In that the the Ultra Sonic line will be increased tech and will most likely have a price bump and the existing 2S line will be modified slightly to bring it in under its current price point as the 3S line? The cynic in me is inclined to think that brands are increasingly trying to blur the traditional pro / senior line distinction here - especially as the old Canadian / USA made pro vs. overseas made senior is less important given that Bauer and CCM pro lines are overseas made anyways. That said, admittedly 'senior' lines are noticeable a lot better today than they were even in 2011 when I last had a senior set.
  7. My own experience going from Reebok P4s to Brians G-netik 2: P4s were 34 + 1 and I ordered the Brians as 33 + 1.5, the shin sizing was fairly 'true' in that the knee block of the Brians were an inch lower than the one of the P4s. However, the thigh rise of the Brians was wayyyyy bigger than the P4s (certainly not 0.5" bigger ), perhaps as much as 2" bigger which meant that the Brians 33+1.5 were overall taller than a Reebok 34+1. I believe in part that this is due to Brians having bindingless thigh rises which means you're getting more actual pad (as opposed to binding) in the listed size. However, if you're specifically after Premiers its worth taking into account at one point they stiffened the boot so much that it made them feel bigger than they actually were (don't know if this is still the case with the current model)
  8. Here's me rocking some 12" wide V1's on the come back trail back in 2010ish! Previous owner had re-covered the knee wings in a cordura type material, which meant sliding was pretty much non existent. Digging this picture out reminded me of a funny story about that OHL practice jersey: Year after the pic was taken I was playing for my university team as a staff member; the uni league in the UK is nothing like the NCAA / Usports etc and is more like organised beer league just affiliated to universities. Nonetheless, we get a few decent guys from Europe and north America that have played at a pretty good level and want to play whilst they're over here. In one of the first practices of the year, one Canadian dude looks at the OHL jersey and says to me 'whoa is that your jersey??'. Yeah I say...mine as in I bought it off eBay . He'd soon find out on the ice that there was not much chance of me having ever graced an OHL crease!

    Warrior G5

The goalie monkey link posted previously says warrior-wall masks, if thats any clue to a collaboration or maybe just alphabetical indexing? Wonder if this means Warrior has bought out Wall Finland to be their branded masks and this will help them get some traction in the show outside of their sticks?
  10. Hmmm... True Premier Series by Lefebvre coming summer 2020?? After I wrote the post earlier I thought it'd be pretty cool if Warrior picked up Lefebvre, so Warrior had two 'name' lines - the Smith line and the Lefebvre line
  11. If I was Domingue I'd have just told the equipment manager not to bother with the pad wrap
  12. I wonder if Lefebvre will take a similar route to JRZ after the split and set up on their own as a small-scale manufacturer offering only the Premier line? Or whether another company will partner with them to grab the niche of the die-hard Premier users? (Having just typed that out, my guess is that there'd be some legal set up after the partnership is dissolved, that includes non-competes and licensing for the 590 / 580 glove designs that CCM will still be using)
  13. Man, I didn't realise that the V8 glove was so close to a 590 - the backside, cuff and internal strapping is almost identical! Thats not a knock though, I loved my old 590 and thats a beautiful glove. In this 590-ish style glove the way your hand is positioned in the glove means the cuff angles away from your arm, so your wrist isn't near those knots on the rear of the cuff.
  14. Just reading back through this thread, made me think that its kind of strange that gloves are almost universally referred to by break angle these days instead of model type - especially given that theres so many build variables that go into each glove. I remember reading a few years back (maybe on the GSBB) that the original Koho / Lefevre angle designation of 60/90 degrees was actually to do with how they saw the goalies arm in the stance, rather than the mechanics of the glove - i.e. if you held your glove arm at a approx 60 degree angle in your stance then the 590 glove was better for you etc.
  15. Finally got mine out on the ice for the first time tonight - like them so far, consistent rotation back to the centre (with the original Brians smart toe they often wouldn't pull the pad back to centre), and felt like they pulled the pad down a bit more securely on the skate too. Definitely an upgrade on my homemade version of shock cord + plastic hooks!
  16. Stolarz, bit of blue pad wrap and he'll be fine:
  17. And the flip side of the trade:
  18. Wherever possible I try and sell stuff on facebook groups rather on eBay these days - so far *touch wood* I've not had any bad experiences and you potentially only eat the 3% PayPal fee rather than the 10% seller fees too. Shifted a ton of goalie gear on there without any issue all, (around Europe and to N.A) and got rid of my old Audi A2 on a specialist A2 group without having to deal with eBay or Auto Trader's £30 listing fee - the specialist audience of goalie / car groups also weeds out general time wasters. (selling something like an iPhone on facebook marketplace, however is a whole different ball game ? )
  19. Ah thats interesting - I'd not seen that diagram of the cut of the skate before. I hadn't considered the Vapor line really because I have wide feet - the Bauer measure machine has me at a nexus fit. But I had a similar experience when trying on the 1s in that it felt like the laces were carrying more of the load than in my Grafs.
  20. How are you getting on with the switch to these? I'm a long time G50 user (with vertex cowls) and have been thinking about picking up some 1s on sale, but haven't been fully convinced to pull the trigger yet - the ones i tried on felt like they had a ton of forward flex in the boot because the boot wasn't wrapped around my foot that much (although that could be just because they weren't baked!)
  21. Haha if only! ? I think it was just one of those weird, freak occasions helped, no doubt, by me sliding out of position past the post as the shot was taken. I was also rocking entry-level Bauer pants at the time that were far too big - now i'm in appropriately sized CCM pro pants, Warrior nut hut with a Vaughn Epic goalie jock over the top...lesson learned!
  22. I think my worst injury will prove to be the ongoing wear and tear on my hips! That aside, from memory I've had a high ankle sprain that kept me out a couple of months and a hard, short-range shot onto Bauer Reactor kneepads (not recommended) that meant I had to miss a couple of weeks. In the spirit of humour on the thread though, heres my weirdest injury incident; when I started playing again the team I was on were not that great, so I just used my normal player box before sorting out a proper goalie one. Never had a problem with shots from the front, but in one session a shot hit the post, rebounded straight out and got me in the balls from behind! Not sure a goalie box would even of helped in that instance! ?
  23. Played an over 35s tournament last weekend and came away with a respectable 2nd place and 'net minder of the tournament' award!
