  1. My blocker, which I bought used off a guy through Kijiji, was signed by Robin Lehner - presumably from his Ottawa days. He didn't try to charge me extra for it, and in the pre-"Lehner-story" days, it was all but meaningless to me. I actually forgot it was there until I saw your post.
  2. Kraken sounds really cool! I like too that it would be one of the very few teams that don't end with an "s" - good for trivia! But would a kraken be seen as infringing a bit on Detroit's traditional association with 8-tentacled sea dwellers, which dates back to the original-6 era? Maybe not....? I mean, it's not like it's Detroit's logo or anything.
  3. The green and yellow actually made me think further back than Minnesota, to when Oakland had a team: ...and don't forget the skates (because white isn't just for goalie skate cowlings):
  4. Wow - thanks for sharing, @lummy31 That Vic in the last pic looks soooo heavy. Can't imagine using one of those today. Just curious - and not meaning to pry - but what was the reason for all that travel? That's quite an impressive list of places you've been! (Though you'd assume that when born in Toronto, you're already in the center of the universe, which precludes the need to go anywhere else! )
  5. Go to crack a Liquid Art Fest, another awesome brew from Collective Arts, when I suddenly notice the can; fer feck’s sake - Daveart is designing beer can labels now?!?!?
  6. But of course! I even thought of doing a parody post with this - a la @stackem30, but didn’t have the time (and wouldn’t have done as good a job anyway). Having studied Art History throughout university, I was a bit irritated by the Daveart abstract expressionism write up... but then he is being paid to do art, and I’m not, so maybe knowing the history really IS unimportant... lol! I'm also not being paid to play goalie... or drink beer... maybe I have to rethink my hobbies and passions a bit.
  7. Got some Custom Cages vinyl, and actually had some time to stick ‘em on today. I mean, it’s no Daveart, but at $30, can’t really go wrong. Besides, I’m not a fan of non-figurative abstraction by American action painters as the inspiration for mask art.
  8. Wife: "Hey, so I was... wait - what are you looking at on the computer? That better not be more goalie gear!!!" Me: "uh.... no - it's porn. yeah - porn - I swear! @Jacob Musselman - I love this set! But my heart achenes for you thinking that you're waiting on a meniscus to heal. UGH! Does having this sweet gear around make it easier or harder to wait for the meniscus to heal? ? Wishing you speedy recovery, so that this set can see some love (read: vulcanized rubber)!
  9. Interesting idea. I like it. I was actually in your neck of the woods today with the kids: Pioneer trail in gatineau park. About 5 minutes in, saw a nice fresh pile of bear droppings. Wife and I quickly decided the adventure hike was over - lol!
  10. Fall at last! That magical time of year where you get to see your team play meaningless - though worrisome - pre-season games (god, I hope Price was sucking on purpose, or ironically, or had a stunt double), and when almost any beer style works - especially Marzen! Pairs well with pork tenderloin - the marinade for which also contains beer! #BBQporn
  11. Hey PRW! Gotta ask - you’re in The GTA, but a Habs fan? Or maybe just a Roy fan? I’m guilty on both counts myself - lol!
  12. Hear, hear! In fact, as a member of the SPCE (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Equipment), I'd ask that all equipment found on site be removed prior, and set up in new homes. I'll send my mailing address...
  13. Is that you on the left, or the right...?
  14. Are you going to go for the black Nike cowlingless and runnerless goalie skates too....? Very light - wearers don't even feel them!
  15. Well, at the Pro Hockey Life on Bank (near Hunt Club), I think the Warrior bag was $169. They also had the Brian’s wheel bag for $149 or something? No pad straps on it, but a decent price and pretty solid (I looked at it too when I was there)
  16. I also have the X700, and tie them about as tight as I can - but then I’ve only ever been a skater before February of this year, so tight is all I know. Like @itis121 said, once in a while I don’t get them as tight as I should, and it feels a bit loose - in a shitty, distracting way. I did that last week, and told myself I need to focus more on lace tying next time! Lol!
  17. In the end, I decided to return this Vaughn bag. Did a dry run, with all gear in, and tried to strap my pads on top with the straps provided for this purpose. Even at their loosest, it was really hard to close them. Coming from a large player bag, I was sorta used to exterior pockets - which most goalie bags I looked at don't have. OK, I can adjust and use interior pouches. BUT, in the Vaughn, accessing those interior pouches is really difficult, as the flap of the D-closure hinders accessing the frickin pouch. Hard to explain/visualize, but aggravating. Only 2 grab handles too... anyway, I think I liked the look and idea of having a Vaughn bag, but it just wasn't for me as far as functionality - especially as Warrior, Bauer, and CCM options beside it were $20-30 cheaper. Went with this one instead, packed it easily, and went to a game yesterday thinking nothing about my bag - which is a good thing!
  18. I've exercised phenomenal restraint (read: I forgot about this), and have abstained from bumping this thread for over 2 months, apparently. Lots of new members since then! No pressure or obligation, but: guaranteed reaction(s) from me, which gives you points, which gives you cred. Well, cred here on TGN, at least... so like, cred with other goalies... which in the real world is no cred at all.
  19. LOL - yeah, I know - my statement was tongue-in-cheek, given the (at best) tenuous link between a bag I bought in a brick-and-mortar store, and the number of pros leaving the brand/wait times for custom orders
  20. Bought a bag (yes, with wheels; depending on your POV, I'm either old now, or will be soon - and I can injure myself plenty good without it being bag-carrying related.) Haven't hauled gear to the rink in it yet, but I like it - and it has integrated straps for securing my pads to the top of the bag, so I can retire the yellow bungee cord I had been using on my old bag, and sent it to the HHOF Given the Vaughn discussions and criticisms here lately (mostly about pads, gloves, owner rants, customer service and business models), I haven't removed the tag on this yet, and I have the receipt - so if anyone has this bag and hates it and/or has a good reason why I should return it, please let me know by Friday!
  21. Yeah, you're probably right. I'll let you know when I get to that age ('cus I sure ain't there yet - in fact, you're a month away from joining me in the 30s, old man! )
  22. I dunno - I'll probably get a few of my "best years" right at the tail end of things, when I'm too old and effed up to realize things piss me off, and too old to give a damn anyway! Oh, and GET OFF MY GRASS!!!
  23. Damn... I AM glad I did just that! Even the sales guy I was talking to (who was great), was sorta implying that they were a bit dodgy...
