So I’d say the stiff flex iconiks are actually still a bit more flexy than the stock flex SLR4. The thigh is pretty similar in both, but the Iconik has more flex at the knee bend, despite the knee break I added on the SLR4. I also ordered the soft boot on the SLR4 but the boot on the Iconik is still significantly softer and more flexible.

The iconiks are also a bit thinner and lighter.

What’s you ATK and size of your Brian’s? I have yet been able to try a set on but might pick up some optiks on SL. I’m currently in M Bauer M5 and hitting good on the stack maybe little high. I’ve read Brian’s run a little big so idk if a 34 will be too big. Their sizing chart puts me in a 33, I have 17.5 ATK maybe a hair over that.

I’m a 17.75 ish ATK. On the Gnetik I was middle to top 1/3 of knee block on a 33, and on the Iconik I’m right at the top of the block. Using a 33+1.5. They eliminated the big boot bump on the Gnetik so the iconiks fit a bit smaller, but probably only about a 1/2 inch or so. 33 works good.

Brians thigh rise is really where they get you… my +1.5 is 9 inches above the top of the knee block, which is the same as my true +2 thigh. My slr4s are like 8.75 above the knee on a +2, and some v10s I used are like 8.5ish.

I want to make sure I’m understanding  correctly with your 17.75 ATK you are landing towards the top of the 33’s. So In Theory my 17.5 ATK would be pretty low in the 34 and 33 would be right about right for me? I kow there are factors that play into fitting.

Correct. I definitely wouldn’t get a 34 if I were you, especially if you’re currently in a medium Bauer.

You get a chance to put them on the ice? How the rebounds compare to the SLR4?

Yeah I’ve gotten both sets on the ice a few times. I’d say the rebounds are a bit hotter off the brians. After a few more skates with the Vaughn’s the rebounds actually feel pretty dead, especially for a stiff pad. I don’t mind that though, I’m old, sometimes I prefer just covering the puck haha.

Has anyone ever seen or had white embroidered thief eye on their catchers? Ive always liked and wanted the eyes on a catcher but I'm most likely going with an all black glove and have only seen black thread used for the eyes an fell like it wouldn't really show up on a black glove.

Well, it's Brians, so you can get them to do whatever you want.

Though, they do typically put white thief eyes on their gear as a standard. Here's an image of a retail black Iconik with the eyes you're asking about.

That still shows up i was googling around and trying to find a black glove that shows the eyes. I was talking about using white thread on the whole expression but from that picture it looks like the black thread still shows through pretty well.

once again you pull through coop, now go get my pads on SL.

For you Brian’s guys don’t feel it’s necessary to get pro palm in Brian’s gloves? I was able to “try” out a TGC spec vapor 90 and it has enough protection for the level I play. They added some DCT in some areas, think fingers possibly…. I did get a couple shots i felt but they were few and far between and on weird spots. My warrior glove had plenty of protection for me and it was a normal pro G5.

Im going to order some custom stuff on the glove and idk if I should add a pro palm with extra break in time. Also are there any specs I should ask for? So far I got possible pro palm with extra break in, reinforced T, double T, and thief eyes on the T.

Also, any longevity issues with the boa system? I know they sell replacement parts but traditional doesn’t really have any moving parts and has been around for forever. I’m more worried about longevity of the boa system. Anyone have any issues with them?

anyone also go from hyperlite blocker to the eclipse? On the fence whether I should get an eclipse blocker or a vapor blocker. I’ve used the supreme blocker and liked the feel and pop and never tried a vapor blocker. Is the eclipse more closer to the supreme blocker? My thought process is thicker board more coverage vs the vapor thinner board. I’m ordering a custom set of x5’s I got a deal on so it’s either a vapor blocker or eclipse blocker that matches.

sorry for all the questions and a lot to unpack.

You'll probably be fine with a standard palm, unless you're playing with guys that can really rip it. What I will add here is that I could really start to feel shots in the palms of my Brian's gloves as they age/see use/break-in. With that said, you may want a pro palm as long as you're fine with that changing how the glove feels a small amount. I typically prefer my Game Ready to my Pro Palm (all GNetikV or IV) for the overall feel in catching, even if I get the occasional stinger in it from guys that played BCHL, NAHL, ACHA D2/D1, Div3 NCAA, etc.

Reinforced T may be good, never asked for it. Might have an effect on break-in/closure.

Double T should come standard with Thief eyes, but you may want to confirm that.

None over the course of about 6 years. I notice some wear on the tracks that hold the wire in on the wrist piece, but I also crank that one down almost as tight as it will go.

They're doing ATOP (I think)now, but I can't imagine it's much/any worse. You might be able to get BOA if you request it/would prefer it.

I think both of these are going to feel rather different. The Eclipse is a solid board the whole way through, without the edges tapering on the "sides" for a more "whole" feel when pucks hit it outside the center. I wouldn't claim coverage in any capacity, but the way the curvature of Bauer blockers is compared to Brian's (and any other brand) feels different with it being more of a spoiler than sloping curvature at a point.

Thus, I would call the Eclipse blocker closer to the Supreme style. Not a lot else on the market has felt like a Vapor to me, though the Optik kind of has with the tapered edges.

This may be mostly for @Toobs as you've tried both (all 3 including True) but I'd welcome any other opinons. I tried the eclipse on in store and it felt great. One of the best feeling gloves I've ever tried. You seem to love it, but the other glove I've tried on that I really liked was a V10 XP70. I assume the SLR4 (60/70) would be quite similar, so I was curious on your thoughts comparing the two gloves on ice. I also would be curious compared to a True 580/590 as that would likely be my third option.

Thanks!!!!!

You are correct the V10 XP70 and SLR4 70 are the same glove. It’s actually probably my favorite of the 3, it catches so well and was so comfortable. I’d probably rank them:

Vaughn 70

True 580 (feels a bit more natural on the hand then the Brian’s)

Eclipse (incredible closure but the angle feels slightly less natural then the other 2).

Bauer Vapor90.

Happy to answer any specific questions about any of them!

Iconiks should be here Thursday so I’ll let you know then. I actually ordered the stiff no break profile on the Iconik because I wanted the aggressive Z curve. So far with the slr4s the only thing I haven’t loved is how straight they are, I’m gonna try to work in a bit of a bend at the knee break.

How are you liking the stiff break on the iconiks? Have you ever used Bauer supreme pads, ideally shadows or machs? Wondering the stiffness profile and sliding compares the Bauer.

I love the iconiks. Fantastic pad. Best sliding in a pad I’ve ever had, very comfy, great seal.

Ive used Machs and even the stiff Iconik is nowhere near as stiff as a Mach. The thigh on the Iconik is plenty stiff, but it’s still got a decent amount of flex through the knee and shin and has a very soft boot. I think the Brian’s slide better for sure though.

How is the knee block, it looks pretty beefy is it stiff and larger like the machs had? Interesting that they feel like they slide better than the machs. How are the rebounds on them I’m guessing pretty hard but not as crazy as the machs. Does the more Z shape of the stiff profile feel awkward or clumsy?

The knee block is super beefy, very comfortable to land on and quick to the ice. It’s got a traditional laced in block tho, doesn’t have a bracket like in the Mach so there’s a bit more flex. I personally prefer it that way, the Mach block was too stiff for me.

Rebounds I’d say are good enough. Definitely not as hot as a Mach or even a Vapor pad. But hotter than either Vaughn line, and in line with my True PX3s.

The Z shape actually feels very natural, no awkwardness at all for me.

Have you had any experience with optiks? Is the stiff core for the iconiks the same stiffness and core as the stock optiks?

yeah I used an Optik 3 max core. They’re much stiffer than the Iconik. The shape is the same, but the Iconik has much more flex throughout the pad, whereas the optiks don’t really flex at all. They were too stiff for me.

On par with machs or little less?
