  1. I am cowlingless. However, the outer calf wing is vestigial. It is but extra weight.
  2. Last night was a night where posts were helping keep the puck out. I did hug my posts last night. Strange phenomenon, however: fresh netting but no fresh paint on the goals at my rink! Strange. Those posts deserve love from the rink staff… Please share your strangest posts denying the shooter stories.
  3. I have had an adult life-long battle with weight. Pretty well my career change was not beneficial for any part of my life LOL After all, my severe health problems began not long after I started the new job. August was a the catalyst, as I was starting a new chapter after having a near total breakdown. Exercise and better nutrition helped put everything back into place for me. And I will re-emphasise this: exercise helps make mental health meds work better. Working from home was a game changer. I, for one, was very happy with some of the changes as a result of the pandemic. I thrived with a remote workplace, once all the bugs were worked out. Taking 2-4 hours off of commute time was huge. I actually have established a great home/work balance. Rigorous exercise makes me forget work. So, yes- I am going to keep it up! Thanks for the kind words.
  4. Taking off that half-moon on these pads was DEFINITELY what the doctor ordered. Two ice times without the foam half-moon gone has made these pads nice and flexible. I did let in a dumbish goal under the pad, but that was user error; definitely not the fault of the pad. I will properly patch the the boot channel once I do more extensive modding. I will address the crazy rebounds and re-stuff the knee rolls (make knee rolls round again, or MAKRRA). Warrior pads are a great platform for modifying, period.
  5. @ser33 I absolutely love your post mortem of the Bauer pads, as well as everything else you’ve done. Being a fellow gear geek myself, I love delving into how pads are built. The very first pad I had disassembled was shocking, to say the least, and even the Warriors that I have recently modded (with purposeful outboard stitching to invoke the days of old) show some interesting details. Pad tech is evolving, but slower than it appears. Some quite old Brian’s pads that I have had essentially the same construction methods as these Bauers in the core, yet performance wise, are light years ahead. Polystyrene foam for the sides of the pad has been around for a long time, and definitely is lighter than hair, kapok or foam worms and holds its shape. Yet it keeps evolving. Keep up the great work!
  6. Stayed under 170 despite Christmas. I haven’t weighed myself since Christmas morning. Only ate two meals yesterday as we got a late start. Eating a heavy meal even three hours before hockey is a disaster due to my lack of colon. It seems that I am stuck between 167-170. But my increased fitness is translating to better in net performance.
  7. Another good game in the books. My tendy partner and I wore our joke jerseys tonight. Every goal against was either flukey or one I couldn’t do anything about. I am quite chuffed with how I played. Increase in fitness DEFINITELY helped.
  8. It’s funny you say about the first part, as my skating coach was outright bewildered when I switched to playing goal after her working with me for two years when I returned to hockey. She helped me regain every step I had lost and added new steps that made me so much more efficient and I was just as fast as kids half my age. All of that stuff helped IMMENSELY in net. Working with a skating coach helps for EVERY position on ice.
  9. Garage is getting full. I will be hanging them from the front wheels from the ceiling.
  10. Crew Defender 700c built as a road bike:
  11. As much as I love the aesthetics of a well-constructed pair of 60s or 70s Bauer Black Panthers or CCM Super Tacks, these Koneckt skates are the future, and yes, I would buy a pair as soon as my Grafs wear out. This build method is truly where composite skates should go. Fit problems should be mitigated, consistency in lacing problems should be gone, heel lock will be positive. Yes, they may not look wonderful, but functionality needs to be well above aesthetics. Maybe future generations of this product will address the aesthetics.
  12. Let me tell you something: I had Reebok 14k skates, then moved into the 20K. The 20k were miserable compared to the 14k.
  13. Don’t forget re-runs of BBQ Death Match!
  14. The biggest problem with Nash is that you would need to double up on it, meaning that the Nash that was on MacLean’s blocker was a fair bit thicker than what is now a palm material. I am proponent of alternate, non-smooth face materials to face blockers. I have had Nash-faced modern blockers and the pop with a well-spec’d foam make rebounds go straight into the corner. I have never had a Cordura faced blocker, but it seems like something I want to try!
  15. In general, journalism has become quite poor. Between the lack of good editing, writing skills, and research, modern articles have become quite difficult to read. That being said, from a very topical look, modern tending is harder on the body, plain and simple. But this is why not only is the position of goaltender the most coached position, but there are physiotherapists who have chosen to specialise in goalies! I have my own reasons why I am firmly a hybrid goalie. Being a tick under 5‘9“ tall, it can be dangerous to my health, particularly to the head, to use butterfly exclusively as my save selection. But that article was just plain bad.
  16. I really want to know how this works. I feel that there needs to be an adhesive promoter to make it work better. My heart of hearts says it’s a 2/3 chance that promoter will not be harmful to Jenpro; however, I am happy that you will test it on your old gear
  17. The wear issue could be mitigated with a wear strip laced into the boot/leg channel.
  18. I like the Vaughn “pro” (senior) offerings. I am also bullish on Warrior.
