  1. 5’8”, I use the newer Bauer 25” or CCM 26” and cut down the shaft 3-4 inches a la Mr. Price. Now that I have some CCM foam cores, I’m going to experiment with shaping the paddle, prob trigger.
  2. Sock-free here too. I will say that after two 2-hour pickup sessions and one 1-hour practice session, I did not feel any loss in grip or slippyness on these liners.
  3. I have taken one hard shot to the Toe already, honestly I can say I felt nothing, just heard a loud smack, just like in my CCM cowlings. Haven’t been hit in any other areas of the skate yet. Good suggestion.
  4. After a proper bake and sharpening, I am very happy with my two piece skates. All the reviews about the custom fit are accurate, it’s totally unlike any retail skate. Would like to write a more extensive review at some point. Only issue I’ve noticed so far - the slot for toe ties is a bit small (picture below). My Brian’s Smart Toe straps (2.0 model with the Velcro sandwich) BARELY fits through. I have a pair of HALs so I can try them but I’m not sure they will fit without some serious smushing. Obviously this is no problem with regular laces and it won’t be a problem for me when I install Pro Toe Bridges and RYNOs but I thought I’d mention it.
  5. When I was using S190s (w/Tydan btw, great steel) I went with the blue areas. ProLaces seem like an excellent product but this is one area where the HAL design is prob superior - you can change the length of the shock cord to fit your strapping set up. You can also replace with easy-to-find shock cord of varying thicknesses and tension as well. Not trying to knock ProLaces - there could be reasons people prefer the simplicity of that design as well, just pointing out a difference.
  6. @Doobiesnax beautiful. Stunning in its simplicity. Great shape too.
  7. Wow looks great. I know this is weird but I really like how the backhand of the trapper came out for some reason. Cool contrast between the white and color areas. I also dig the contrast between the red outer edge on the leg pads and the blue outside calf wrap.
  8. These arrived today, 5 weeks to the day since I placed my order @Tim_TRUEHockey (estimate was 4-6 weeks, so no complaints :)) Will take them to get baked and sharpened and can’t wait to try them out! First thing I did was check the holder height - these things are tall! Next to my CCM Tack’s with Step Extreme, these are at least 1/4” taller (and that’s with standard Step)!
  9. @ULTIMA Full confession mode here - literally half my pre-game playlist is dominated by Taylor Swift. I like upbeat stuff on my drive to the rink, always have as a player and especially now playing goalie. I like having something catchy stuck in my head for those games where the shots are few and far between (although not getting many of those lately). I’m going to say “22” is my favorite tune lol. I respect anyone who is committed enough to an idea to get custom paint. Do you wear yours in games or is it more of a collection?
  10. Damn I wish I played on a team with that kind of geek cred lol. The mask with the Rebel Alliance logo is beyond sick (and subtly so...) At least my team (Punishers) gives me some options when I go for custom paint at some point. I wanted my name on my jersey to be “Castle” (get it?) but the league said no...
  11. Sick! If I were you I’d have him clear coat over his handwritting lol. Cool look.
  12. Not to beat this horse any further, but Sportmask says it uses a “carbon fiber composite” shell, so curious how their particular flavor compares to others. Not clear where and how much carbon is in the mask. I go back to my earlier thought - the stiffness is just one element of the design, the contours/shape of the mask and how it reflects pucks away play a huge part as well and I imagine it’s important to find the best combination of both. As @TheGoalNet said I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these pro level masks, the approach to protection is just slightly different among them.
  13. Not an engineer or physicist here, but my understanding was that you wanted the stiffest material possible and that the shape of the mask was meant to deflect impacts away, not absorb any of the energy.
  14. Had to lol at this sentence. What about next year, will the 2X be 4X more flexible than 1X multiplied by 2S divided by 1S?? Math jokes.
  15. Didn’t get a quote from them but I thought Sportmask customs were around $1000 USD. Haha yessir. The lighting in my picture makes it look shiny but it is a really nice matte white. Personally I think it looks really cool contrasted against the chrome cage.
  16. Just got this in and I’m absurdly excited about it: Sportmask Pro Series 2 (Cam Ward) After lots of measuring and consultation with The Goalie Crease store, I’ve got what is as close to a custom fit as I can get without going the full custom route. I am so happy with the fit and finish and looking forward to trying it out on the ice. Bought this with the intention of getting a nice paint job but I am really digging the matte white look so may stick with that for a while. Do want to swap out the black elastic for white/cream, but will do that shortly.
  17. @TheGoalNet Screw-in toe bridges on 2S Pros?
  18. @SaveByRichter35 Thanks. After reading this and everything else I can find on the subject, I’m settled on the two piece. All accounts are that it’s lighter, achieves the same solid custom fit, and I can change the holder and steel if I want to. I sent my tracings and order form in Can’t wait to try them!
  19. IDK why but I love reading these kinds of threads... C/A: Vaughn V7 XF Pro Carbon (medium) Pants: CCM Premier Pro (large) How do I wear it?: C/A tucked in, suspenders over shoulder floaters with velcro straps to hold them in place. I've tried untucked with a size small pant (my waist size is 29) but hated the floaty feeling of the untucked C/A. Now everything stays in place and I look much bigger in net, plus I've already made some pant saves with the size larges I'm pretty sure I would not have in the smalls lol. Any issues?: Putting on and taking off suspenders sucks. May buy a Monster harness to at least make it easier to remove.
