creasecollector
Update: Finally did go ahead and cut my first paddle. Just shortened it an inch (no fancy cut-out this time) but did the trick. Will be using it tomorrow so it should play like the paddle size I'm used to playing (25"). Covered the cut area with stretch wrap tape and sealed along the edges with white tape, covered by some clear on the ends, as well as the middle. I don't mind using clear tape in this area as it doesn't interfere with me gripping the stick, but I still feel I can throw out a poke check and am still able to reel the stick back in with ease. EDIT: Used the stick and it felt great! Now hoping it holds up. You just never know with a paddle mod how it may affect durability/longevity of a stick (i have heard varying opinions on this subject), but here's hoping. I am not a big puck-playing goalie, so hoping this will help a paddle cut mod last a bit longer. jerd31
Got bored, whipped out my jigsaw and went to town on an old Warrior V1 Pro+ I retired a while back
35RoloSmith41
Bought a pro stock Bauer stick with a trigger grip. Now I cut it into all my sticks. Just trace the pattern and use a little manual saw I got at a hardware store. Everyone needs a trigger grip. I tried a game recently without a trigger grip and I felt lost. It’s so awkward to hold.
Puckstopper
I thought in light of the V1 stick thread being resurrected I'd dig this up and report some results. I've tried cutting a variation of the Lundquist grip into 4 different stick types: Warrior RV1 Pro+: 1 of 2 sticks cut failed. Failure was after many uses and I was really leaning on it. Uncut 3rd stick from the pack was given away 2 years ago and is still going strong in low level beer league. Warrior M/1 Pro+: 2 of 2 sticks cut failed. Failures were almost instant and with minimal force. Uncut 3rd stick from pack is taking up space in my stick rack. I may dig it out occasionally if I want to try a stick without a custom grip, but that's unlikely. CCM Eflex 4: 2 sticks cut, 0 failures. These are my primary game sticks and I have an uncut, unused backup from the 3 pack, which I'm profoundly thankful for! Bauer Supreme Ultrasonic: Picked up a pro-stock one of these in red to match my EF5 setup. So far so good, it's been used 3 times since being cut down and hasn't show any signs of failure. I see others cutting Warrior sticks in this thread, but the circular cuts are a little less aggressive than what I do. If I were going to cut a Warrior, I'd do so carefully and stay to just trimming the paddle a bit.
DL42
or just get a shorter paddle and add a knob 1 " above the paddle/shaft joint

I’ve actually modified it a bit to shave down some more on my thumb side. Both have held up with no issues, including the occasional post smash after letting in a goal.

That being said, I did play around with adding grip to the bottom of the shaft and what was initially meant to improve grip ended up improving my control of the stick and hand fatigue. I now use the Tacki Mak Command grip and cut it in half. Use the top half for the knob of the stick and use the bottom half for the grip just above the paddle. it beefs up the stick just enough, helps with grip and has the added bonus of cutting down greatly on stick vibration and hand fatigue throughout the game. If anyone wants to give it a try, I suggest NOT using the double sided tape provided with the product, and instead apply it with hair spray. Works just has well and makes the grip much easier to reuse when switching stick. Did you have to spray the entire shaft with hairspray to get the grip just above the paddle? I would like to try this but found it hard to get on to the top of my stick so I imagine it would be difficult getting it all the way down the shaft. Did you have any issues with the grip shifting using only hair spray and not the double sided tape? Thanks.

I did this for a little over a year on a couple sticks and I would use some soapy water to get it all the way down to the grip. I was going to try the hair spray only route for the heck of it on the next needed install but went back to tapes for grips. The grips are cheap enough imo to use the adhesive tape if you're worried about movement as they should get beat up enough I wouldn't move it to another stick. A.YOUNGoalie13
Can someone with a trigger grip show a picture of how they hold it? Curious what the finger setup is like compared to the grips I cut

So still putting the pointer finger down the paddle and the middle finger wraps around the cutout?

I occasionally find myself doing that actually, but mostly use pointer for the trigger.

I have the unused grip but somehow lost the double sided tape for underneath so I was just seeing if I could get away with using it or just spring for a new one.
