  1. I’ve already started soaking the kneepads, throat guard and cup. First in plain water, then in OxiClean. So it’s a little hard to see the brown. I have scrubbed them with the brush pictured, which has helped some. Pictured are two angles of the kneepads.
  2. Answers so far are a pool, a large, commercial grade washing machine, spraying with Microban, using an ozone generator by way of a service or purchasing a machine myself. Any other ideas? The main focus of the thread was to deal with the brown staining on the spots of the gear that touch my skin. None of these surfaces are white (or were white), btw.
  3. So, I have a break between seasons and I'd like to tackle some gear cleaning. I have read some of the other threads about gear cleaning, although most are older and specific to one piece of gear. I've also tried in the past soaking my gear in the tub with laundry detergent or Oxiclean, multiple soakings. I've even used a small brush and an old toothbrush. The issue I'm having is areas of the gear that touch my skin have a brown stain on it . Knee pads, gloves, lower arms of the C/A and inside of the mask. Despite all of the aforementioned cleaning, I haven't been able to get rid of the brown staining. Granted, the gear is old, but I'd like to get rid of that staining. What would you recommend? Any simple household cleaners or chemicals that I may already have would be nice to use if you have ideas. Thanks.
  4. I think I know what you're talking about, but for the life of me I can't find it. I know I watched it on social media at some point.
  5. I keep getting signed out the last few days. Is that happening to anyone else?
  6. I put clear tape over the sticky area on my stick.
  7. Vintage Goalie Equipment group on Facebook is good to peruse. Plenty of awesome content on there. Social media is what you make of it. Instagram also has Goalie Gear Nerd which has good content. I like watching CooperGoaile on YouTube.
  8. I've tried to get several guys to look into these forums, starting with the GSBB. Especially those who were searching for information about various equipment issues. It often seems like the idea of coming to these forums was a hassle to them. Their loss. Joining the GSBB and this forum has actually saved me a lot of money over the years. Before that I got my goalie fix by looking on eBay and buying equipment I thought might help my game. It was very trial and error based. I ended up buying and selling a lot of stuff so I recouped most of the money. But, I felt like I was chasing answers. After joining GSBB and then later here, I could ask questions and search the forums and often get answers that would lead to low-cost solutions. I've been using the same equipment since 2012 with other equipment that dates back to 2005 mixed into the rotation. Care and repairs have helped with allowing me to continue using this gear. It still is protective and functional. I have added the bungee-style toe attachments, Prolaces, subtracted leg pad straps, and made small manufacturer purchases, PAW and Maltese. I certainly prefer some thread topics over others. Pictures, anything funny and anything John Brown related (The equipment manufacturer, not the abolitionist, although he was pretty important, too).
  9. I was today years old when I learned the genre name “Shoegaze”. Just looked it up.
  10. I think Brown does a summer shutdown around August. At least they have in years past. This may affect your production time. Back in 2006 when I ordered mine, I wanted the built-in collar. The shop that I bought from actually sent one without. I had to send it back and they sent one with one. I wanted my shipping money back because it was their mistake. I never heard back from them. The shop went out of business shortly thereafter. Pretty sure no hockey shops carry Brown unless it’s old inventory. I know as recently as three years ago when I lived in Connecticut, Wesco in Brookfield had a few 2100 units. Now dealing directly with Brown you’re going to get something built specifically for you. Roughly a year ago, I removed the integrated throat guard from my 2100 and started to use the Maltese throat guard I use with my Vaughn 8800 Epic C/A. I found the integrated one had a gap in protection. It’s just a ring of foam attached with fabric. No padding in the connecting fabric. Every now and then a puck would sneak in there. And I do wear a dangler. Now the Maltese throat guard and C/A together cover with no gaps. Aside from the upper arm addition, I’m not sure if Russian spec includes anything else. No idea what extra cushioning entails. Extra rib protection might be for units that don’t have the part that is standard on the 2400. It seems that many components are interchangeable between models. It’s possible telling them which components you like vs the ones you don’t will help them choose the right model to build off of. As with most things regarding their products, asking them directly will get you the most accurate response. My price list may be outdated by now, too.
  11. Pretty sure every human on earth needs to have some level of love for water and sunlight as those things allow us to live.
  12. I seem to remember you saying you took these pictures for insurance purposes. No bulletin boards or social media back in the day to show off your gear on.
  13. Their website is rarely updated. Updated information and products are on their social media accounts, Facebook and Instagram. I compiled a list of prices based on Brown replying in comments of their posts. If you go back far enough, you see their prices go up occasionally. For example as seen below, the JB2400 and JB2200 were $769.95 and are now $850. The JB2000 price is probably old. Collar prices are now obsolete because they apparently no longer offer them. All prices below are in Canadian dollars. So for example, the $850 price tag comes to $717.87 American dollars at the time of this post. Chest Protectors JB2400CA $769.95/$850 JB2200CA $759.95/$850 JB2000CA $739.95 Extras Custom Colors $69.95 Built-in Collar $29.95 High-cut Built-in Collar $39.95 Extra Cushioning $29.95 Shoulder Lifts $39.95 Extra Rib Protection $29.95 Fighting Strap $24.95 Wider Shoulder Flaps $29.95 Suspender Guides $19.95 Russian Spec $79.95 Embroidery $48
  14. I don’t know what’s more impressive, all these odd or interesting rinks near you, or the fact that you have photos at the ready of all if them. I feel like I’ve been at the rink above once. When we lived on Long Island, my girlfriend played on an adult women’s team that traveled to play opponents. I remember going to Jersey* and being in a brick building. Of course, that was more than fifteen years ago. Nice place. * Nice uniforms in the last picture. Who’s the genius that thought powder blue vs gray would be a good idea? Both jerseys have the same pattern, too.
  15. Yeah, a guy in my league got new leg pads from Brown. I saw them in person and wondered why they weren’t posted on Facebook or Instagram. It must’ve been two months later they finally posted them. Their pictures are often blurry, too.
  16. They’re really slow to update their site. I think their newest line, the 2500 (Pads and gloves), is like five years old and still not up on their site. It seems they focus more on social media, posting all products that go out each week. They have plenty of new features available that are not reflected on their website. Sorry about your experience. However, the integrated collar isn’t much in terms of protection. A separate one would be more protective.
  17. I just looked over the Brown website and noticed they no longer offer the built-in neck guards. They were really the only brand that had that feature that I can remember. I wonder if it had to do with the gap in protection between the ring of foam of the throat area and the chest protector itself. It was only connected by a piece of fabric with no padding in it. A separate throat guard would have padding in that area. The main advantage of the attached neck protector was not having to carry an additional piece of equipment around. I ordered my 2100 with the neck guard included. I did get dinged a few times in that gap over the years. I removed it last year and wear my Maltese throat guard with the 2100 now.
  18. What he said wasn’t as bad as I expected. Bruce just has an “everyman” style of talking. However, the larger point is valid. How ignorant most people, even within the hockey world are about anything goaltending.
