  1. I played hockey with A COP in the Detroit area who refused to wear a mask, ever. And there were plenty of other behaviors he exhibited that made me wonder how we give some people positions of authority.
  2. Garth Snow is likely the main goalie who wore equipment so big, it gave the impetus for equipment reduction league-wide. Do people remember just how big his gear was before the crackdown on gear size? I occasionally hear people complain about goalie equipment getting bigger. It’s gotten reduced in size several times since the season that wasn’t played due to a lockout. The athletes wearing it have gotten bigger. Snow had nice gear style though, despite it being enormous.
  3. Are we obliged to hate Kenesky now?
  4. The funny thing is, Battram was known for amazing custom graphics. If you check out their website, you can see countless examples of wild concepts executed perfectly. So if someone chose Battram to build them a set, why wouldn’t you utilize his ability to execute an awesome design of your creation instead of asking him to duplicate a known stock graphic?
  5. Found these old pictures recently. Gear was from the mid-90’s. I used it up until shortly after these pictures were taken in ‘01 or ‘02. I still have the jersey. Everything else is gone, sold on eBay over time. C/A is Boddam, Crouch collar, Heaton pants (the ones with the integrated kneepads), Van Velden mask, Boddam Blaze pads, Brian’s Heritage series Air Hook and matching blocker, Graf Goaler Pro skates. I don’t remember much about the Brian’s stick. Only one I had.
  6. So far, so good experience for me. I mostly view this site on mobile.
  7. So I finally played in goal again at my weekly ball hockey outing. I did use a stand-up heavy methodology, keeping my hands out front, narrow stance and good knee bend. Ready to use the stick on low shots. I used lot of poke checking, paddle-down play, also. I had to be sure when I was going down that it was not going to leave me stranded. Played angles aggressively when no passing option was available. Worked well and I played well.
  8. Love how Zac Bierk stuck with his John Brown pads even after Brown stopped paying rights fees.
  9. Thanks for the responses. I played goal on ice tonight and it was nice to get back on a more familiar surface. Last time I played goalie in floor hockey then ice the next night, things didn’t go well. I was all over the place on the ice. Tonight I didn’t have the same problem and was relatively solid. If I do play in goal in my next floor hockey outing, I’ll keep all your suggestions in mind.
  10. Regulation nets. We play on a basketball court so it’s a small surface. Three on three, half court is the offside line. It’s an offense heavy game. In a two hour time slot we play first to five wins. We played five games last night. We’re at a different gym now since we restarted after the pandemic shutdown. They are church gymnasiums. This church doesn’t want us to take slapshots, the other one doesn’t mind. Even so the players can really bring it with power. I have no interest in welts, so I wear normal goalie equipment. I wear the lighter of my two C/A and pants. I don’t wear my Maltese throat guard, PAW kneepads or goalie cup. Instead I wear a regular cup in a spandex pant, the dangler on my mask and no knee pads. My leg pads are tall and have an S-curve. I will be moving (Again) soon, so I likely won’t be playing ball hockey long term. If I were, perhaps I would investigate some sliding aides. Otherwise, I’ll make due with what I have. The other goalie is tall and plays standup on most plays. He also stays relatively deep. He’s pretty good at it. He also doesn’t have any sliding aide on his pads. He wears full equipment. As far as forums, I didn’t find any other location on the site for ball hockey. Where are you referring to? Isn’t this the proper section?
  11. So I’ve been playing ball hockey with a group for about a year or so. Mostly as an out player. But I always bring my goalie gear in case I’m needed. I’ve probably played goalie a half dozen times over that span. Each time I play goalie, I experiment with what to wear (Or more importantly, what not to wear to increase breathability) and on how to play. I’ve had mixed results. As an exclusively ice goalie for the last twenty years, playing ball hockey on a gymnasium floor isn’t fully translatable. I’ve been some sort of bizarre Hextall-Hasek-Brodeur-Fuhr mashup because the lack of sliding ability or being unable to kick out a leg once it’s down. I’ve been aggressive with depth. I do a lot if paddle down, poke checking, lunging, diving, rolling over, generally flailing. Since the pads I’m using are my ice pads, I don’t plan on altering them with anything to enable sliding. Therefore, what would be the best methodology for success? Mostly standup, with moderate depth? Hip-width stance with the expectation to make kick saves like Bill Ranford? Just keep experimenting and ad-libbing? FWIW I am having fun, I’d just like to have a reliable system for success. Picture included, because why not?
  12. Honestly, the modern game of bar down shooting combined with low stance goalies and down specific movements, getting hit up high is common. Even tall goalies are so low on close in shots that if the shooter has any leverage, and is able to lift it, the goalie will get hit up high.
  13. What features did you have on the 2400? Russian spec or any other structural extras? The 2400 does look like a tank. I wonder if the 2200 is more slimmed down.
  14. Played this afternoon and it was pouring out which made the inside of the rink humid and gross. These are the only times the extra weight and heat of the Brown are noticeable enough for me. Was the type of day where I may prefer my Vaughn 8800 Epic. It’s lighter and cooler, but I feel smaller in it. I feel the Brown makes me look bigger. Anyway, I was wondering those of you who’ve had the 2100 unit or similar@SaveByRichter35 @sebastiancp1 and gone to a more recent JB model, are they lighter and/or cooler? If I ever do get a new chest protector, I want something perhaps not quite as heavy or hot as the 2100. FYI, the unit had an integrated neck guard, but I removed it recently and use my Maltese instead. JB2100 purchased 2006. Leg strap is to keep the shoulder floaters from drifting out of position. Vaughn 8800 Epic purchased 2010
  15. My hips have been sore and seemingly less flexible recently. I’ve played ice hockey goalie twice this week and floor hockey goalie once this week. I’ve played floor hockey as an out-player twice in the weeks before that. I also play soccer and two weeks ago I played both field and goalkeeper. Hopefully my hips will improve with regular play and this is just achy ness that isn’t associated with anything more serious. I have been doing a lot of yoga recently, too.
  16. Just played this afternoon in Fraser, Michigan north of Detroit. A regular invite-only group that usually plays on Friday nights was able to secure their first ice time today. Only restrictions were you must wear a face covering when you enter the building at least until you get to the locker room. No other restrictions. It was fun. A lot of falling and flubbing of passes by all due to rust. I have played floor hockey twice, as a forward, and soccer once, as a goalkeeper, so I have been keeping somewhat active. I’ve also done some yoga recently. However, my hip was a little achy while I played today. This skate is one my girlfriend got me involved in because she works in Detroit. Sadly, she had to work today and was pissed she couldn’t play.
  17. This sounds like a fetish... Talk dirty to me.
  18. WTF with these ads? I’m tired of seeing a disgusting dead rat ad. Reported it countless times. And yes, @Lucky Pucker the ads invade the content all the time. This site is definitely not designed to be viewed on a phone. I’m sure I’ll get the, “works fine for me response” now.
  19. I ended up watching the whole video. Weird how the conferences were set up. I guess they’re always changing the alignment of teams.
