Roland Millington
Had a good time upgrading my old set of Reebok Revoke 9000s. Shaved 15 oz off the pads by removing the straps, rivets, and buckles, swapping them out for 1,500lb. nylon strapping, YKK buckles, tri-glide keepers, and knee block modification. While it might be a touch more difficult for some who don't have the tools I have (I repair saddles and have a leather sewing machine as well as an arbor press to set the new rivets), it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility to affordably make an old pair of pads a bit lighter and give them a bit more life. I will likely upgrade the elastic I used, as when it arrived, it didn't seem as heavy as the original elastic. All in all, however, it worked really well. The finished project involved replacing the straps, removing the knee reinforcement, leaving the landing block, and replacing the skate lace toe ties with ProLaces. I have since removed the boot straps, the center calf strap, and more superfluous items and put in a Scrivens strap I made. Redone rivet and washer combo. The elastic I ordered was nice but not as thick as the previous elastic. Time will tell if this is going to be a non-issue. While the knee block was removed, the knee landing pad was retained. The highest strap position was retained, but the one below was not. I removed the knee guard tie in, as I use Warrior knee guards tied into my Warrior pants. With modern kneepads, the wrapped knee block isn't really necessary. I use Warrior RX3-E knee pads, so the extra room was warranted. I sewed a nylon retaining strap to the inside of the knee landing surface, and attached it to the pad's lasting. Down in the calf channel, I used a tri-glide with the strap sewn to it to keep it from pulling through from the billet end. Pulling these through the toes was not easy. If you plan on doing this, thread a long screwdriver through the slots, and tape the end of the strap to it to pull it through. In the end, it was superfluous for me as I don't use a boot strap. so I removed it. The front tabs were then stuck down using heavy-duty carpet tape. Hope this helps someone who perhaps can't afford a new set of pads to keep theirs in the mix a bit longer. They play pretty well now in a more modern style (not that they didn't before). The biggest help was better integration with the Warrior knee guards and the fact that they weigh 5 lbs., 4 oz. now. 9
ArdeFIN
Similar mods and weight saving as I reached in my XLT28 pads (33+2). I jumped straight into elastic strapping copied from Bauer and Warrior mostly.

coopaloop1234
Didn't use yellow nylon straps: 2/10. Though seriously, great work. Love seeing guys do these type of projects. Mostly because I'd never do them myself.
seagoal
Great work @Roland Millington Man, the Revoke graphic is so iconic. I remember when it first showed up, can't remember which NHL goalie it was though. In my mind, Revokes were a significant sort of milestone in gear graphics in terms of going far out there with something new. Same for Velocity 3. The era of tribal tattoo graphics, haha.

I loved them as well when they first showed up as well. As a Leafs fan, Gustavsson's setup was so nice. Simple white/blue colour scheme, but I've always loved those setups with the Leafs.
