That's sun damage. Also looks like someone popped off the Thrashers logo.

If the Thrashers were still around, they likely would have replaced that sign by now.

Then again, I live in the Flyers practice rink. That place is quite outdated on the civilian side of the joint. They just got rid of the old boob tube tvs in the lobby. The Phantoms moved out a long time ago, the second rink is still called the Phantoms rink. The facility just recently removed the 'Philadelphia Phantoms' logo from the lobby. You can still see where it was...

I've wondered when pro sports may move away from larger arenas. Basically have them play in tv studios with a live audience. This arena may be the first of what may come.

Modern sports stadiums have fewer seats than decades ago. For obvious reasons - going to the game isn't really required for the best way to see the game.

Yotes playing in a small place that's full may be amazing on tv. Supply and demand for tickets is crucial here. As a fan, going to a 5k seat arena would be great. Less traffic, smaller crowd. All seats have great view.

Baseball has already shifted this way. Stadiums are smaller with the people paying more to go (clubs, suites, etc. just make more expensive too). You load up the broadcast with ads. Fans are paying a ton to watch it on tv or however they stream.

NASCAR too has evolved to smaller seating (less were going anyway). So they have to make the tv experience better (quirky tracks) and make their money from quality over quantity.

I could see more NHL teams moving this direction in the future. The Jets are doing ok with it.

Who wouldn't like to see the Hawks move out of a 22k seat stadium and back to a smaller venue?

Or the Bruins in a Garden size place again?

Is that the one in Atlantic City?  I drop by that rink a couple months ago and on a Friday night at 10p it was closed.

No, Vorhees, NJ. The Flyers practice at the Vorhees rink. They sold all the other 'Flyers Skatezone' rinks (AC, Pennsauken and NE Philly) to the Black Bear group. The Vorhees rink was renamed the 'Flyers Training Center'. But we all still call it Skatezone Vorhees.

AC rink is a turd. A few years ago it looked abandoned (like the baseball stadium next to it). I think it hadn't been maintained since it opened in the 90s. It was bad. Recently, there have been some minor work done to it. Still a dump. They have a youth program that's good but not overflowing with players. There are some HS and college teams that play there too.

I hate going there. You didn't miss anything by not going into it. Although the area around it is a hood.

Atlantic City, NJ, Skate Zone to Remain Open Through April 2023

The city took over the AC rink. The parking lot is used by the GM dealership across the street. Thus the lot is half full of nice cars. But they are all from the dealership.

The baseball stadium next door...

Although this is older picture - the lights got so rusty that they fell down. Rink is the building in right field. There is an abandoned airport beyond CF and LF (Bader Field)

Here's the whole complex:

It's a killer spot. AC has casinos right on the boardwalk. But the rest of the city is ghetto.

When my kids have games at AC - we go out on to the runways and drive. I was trying to get my Jeep over 100 mph - but the runways are short and if you overrun them, you're in the bay.

The city has been kicking around proposals for the entire site for decades. Still nothing new.

Played at the Pennsauken rink last year.  What a dump.

I was working (Concert Audio/Sound) a "festival" at Showboat Hotel in the old House of Blue room... but we stayed outside the beach in the newer Holiday Inn (it was nice) and drove by the rink a few times.  After spending a few days in AC, I wouldn't want to bring the family there for a vacation (I felt safer in the Ghetto of Baltimore, like where they tried burning the city down).

Fun part is that every beach town north and south of AC are family vacation hotspots. Some are more popular than others but they all are vacation hotspots.

It's amazing that AC remained the hellhole that it is.

If they burned it all down - like Baltimore - the value would go up.

Saw this diagram of ASU's rink. Reminds me of Notre Dame's rink.

ND's rink complex is amazing. ASU's will be killer too.

Their old joint looks like every rink in the US and Canada that most of the hockey players plsy in.

ASU Named their rink the "Mullett Arena'. It's the last name of the donor.

Jokes were already easy for this team... this is just easier.

Coyotes preseason this year was all on the road. They had roughly 9000 fans in the stands one game. That's like two home games at ASU this year.

The Yotes don't officially move into the ASU rink until October 28th. They have a super long road trip of 33 days in November and December. The rink has stated that ASU Hockey is their main priority. The Yotes won't have many Friday and Saturday night games at the building as that's when the Sun Devils will play.

I've seen some images showing one logo at center ice - either the ASU trident or the Coyotes logo. But I think it's the dual logo as I posted above. I know that the logos are just printed sheets that are in the ice. With the Coyotes long road trips, I could see them removing the Coyotes logo during that time and then shaving and installing the dual logo when the Coyotes are in town.

They have the ASU red and gold game tomorrow. That will be the first fans in the place. I'm sure we'll get some pictures then.

Good question. Most NHL teams - I assume - have at least 5000 season tickets. So if the Flyers moved to this stadium - they'd likely have to buy out a bunch of season ticket holders. Coyotes are not that team.

Looking at their site - tickets start at $200 and go up from there. Every seat is a premium location for a NHL game.

I'll assume that they will still have empty seats through the year. Unsold tickets and all.

Honestly, to me, it would be a cool way to watch the NHL. I'm sure it will be a great environment rather than the empty place they used for the past few seasons.

Looks like they bought out some season ticked holders and increased the price per ticket.

Makes sense. Good find. I took my family to the Flyers game last night. Was walking the concourse and my youngest was checking out the give away stuff. The one big setup was for season ticket holders and I told him they're about $6000 per seat. He was shocked.

I give the season ticket people a lot. They are paying a ton to do that.

My bill last night - (4x $65 tickets)+$25 parking+$20 Gritty Headband+$10 popcorn box = $315

That's it for the season for me. Boring game. My oldest played on the ice after so that's why we went to the game. The kids in our section and my wife all looked at their phone all game.

Flyers had noticeable empty seats. One section up in the corner was about 25% full. Saw a few other random groups of empty seats too. They were promoting last night's game hard. Free t-shirts, discounts, etc. Flyers averaged around 85% capacity last year. I don't see this year improving with the economy and the Eagles being 5-0.

Could be worse. You could be absolutely hosed going to a game in Edmonton:

It will make for a more personal experience being closer to the ice, the players, kind of like going to a Junior game.

The cell phone reference you made is so true and aggravates me so much. Why bother showing up then?! People today, they don't appreciate a good thing.

I think the phone thing is just how it is. Everyone automatically pulls their phones out the minute they are bored a little.

The Phillies game on Saturday - during the last pitches, every a hole in the stands had their phones out and were recording it. Why? It's on tv, streaming, etc. Plus they show the highlights all day.

Same with concerts and pretty much any live event. Live in the moment and enjoy
