When I lived in Toledo, I played here for a summer league. Oddly they didn't have a regular men’s league in the fall and spring. Instead they have 3 on 3 on a smaller surface rink. Weird. I played one week as a sub and said no thanks after that. I never got around to joining a league at the Tamoshanter in Sylvania, which is closer to Toledo.

@WillyGrips13 - I remember our back and forth about where to play and the Tam-O-Shanter when you were moving to the area. Regular 3 on 3 is a tough gig. On my organized drop-in skate night we do one every once and awhile and that's plenty to tide one over who's playing net - usually end up fairly sore the next day.

The fuck O-HI-O bit just comes from my maize and blue blood.

Those pads are sharp.   The guys who played when I was there didn't have options like that.  On the bright side, they didn't have to wear those jerseys either.   Hopefully they're just practice threads.   Ay Ziggy Zoomba!

Agreed @Puckstopper (and acknowledgment of another former Falcon). Team was pretty marginal when I was there (well below 0.500). Numerous better jersey offerings for sure (though they seem to change with the weather anymore) - I'm partial to the classic block letters and/or the falcon head. Orange on cream is not a good look - period.

The Hamburglar's vintage uni was a pretty good one too (I like the number on the front look)...

Um yeah - @coopaloop1234 that was an attempt at pretty thick sarcasm. Must have gotten lost in translation. Fuck O-HI-O and getting belted with wind gusts for miles when you're walking the campus of BGSU but - viva la brown and orange nonetheless... though those jerseys looks horrendous. Not a fan of the off white since it will inevitably be paired with white equipment. Just... bad.

Also - Fred Brathwaite "siting"/proof of life. Nice.

Been seeing a new, gigantic Xp logo on Vaughn gear lately.   I'm wondering if this is a V10 inspired logo for their XP gear

I'm mostly quoting this as a thanks for giving the brown and orange alma mater some love/a shoutout. Can't beat the flat cornfields of northern O-HI-O... and the wind that blows for miles over them.

  5. I'm mostly in the same boat as you @pkbucks - kind of an old school guy that had to reacclimate at some point. I went from Bauer Reactor 3s to Velocity 3s to a myriad of different brands/styles (TPS R10, Reebok XLT come to mind and assorted "others" (including a custom set of V5s that were just too heavy as I spec'd them)) trying to become what I wasn't and could just never get comfortable before I landed on Simmons ULs. The biggest "problem" I had when trying the newer core-based offerings coming from stuffed pads was the stiffness of the boot break. I found that I need to feel the pad against my leg and have it flex with me as opposed to hanging off my leg. If you're like me I might suggest trying Simmons again (either their UL line or their 586 (?) line). The biggest difference you might have to adjust to would be wearing knee protection. That was part of my problem with the V5s as I spec'd them since I asked for the knee from the 7700s (that was therefore too narrow for knee pads - my bad). Of the big names - Vaughn would probably be the softest of the bunch. Each brand claims to have a more "hybrid" offering (like Eflex as you mentioned) but I've found even those were just a bridge too far for me. To hit on your questions...

SIZING: As most have mentioned above - either your ankle to knee or floor to knee measurement is going to govern based on manufacturer's sizing recommendations/charts. A ballpark estimate for most brands is to take your ankle to knee and double it. For instance - I'm like 16.5" ATK and wear 33" pads.

BUTTERFLY: Any pad you buy today is going to be a "butterfly" pad. Basically all you need to do is strap things loose enough that the pad will rotate on your leg and have a knee lift/landing (which every offering these days have). Differences are going to be: construction of that knee landing, materials of that knee landing, size of landing, etc. but all will have it.

REBOUNDS: Echoing from above - most of the core based pads are designed to be stiffer/shoot out rebounds compared to what you're coming from. If I were you I'd stick to Vaughn's Velocity line and/or Simmons.

Good luck - half the fun of getting new gear is checking things out (either online or in person) and sniffing around (like by asking questions on this board).

He'd be suggesting the carbon fiber frame with carbon fiber handles with carbon fiber spokes.

So you can ride those flat trails with ease.

I just got told yesterday that a screenshot from my work software looked like 8-bit Nintendo OG.

Has been a little quiet lately. I'm assuming business will pick up with the start of training camps right around the corner and more real time "sitings" to be had.

With a jersey on you can see just how ridiculous those warrior arms and shoulders are. This set is the most dialed head to toe I’ve ever used. As TGN pointed out the glove break in has been super easy.

New set is looking crispy. May it soon be littered with puck marks.

  9. @MTH thanks for sharing - these diagram representations are sweet and totally my wheelhouse. The pads one takes me back to some pointillism-esque goalie sketches I did in my youth.

Hi I would like people's opinions on a fusion 962 goalie mask bought one would like info

I owned the Simmons Fusion offering for a minute (believe it was branded the MMX... which is basically a smaller 962). Anyhow - some feedback/observations...

I would have been totally comfortable wearing it protection-wise but it just didn't seem to fit quite right. Almost like it pinched my melon a bit in the upper dome area. Finish was not immaculate - not necessarily sloppy or anything but just saying for the price point a little bit of you get what you pay for (and why guys like Michel at Protechsport charge so much for a "pro" finish on the interior of the mask: time = money). If the fit would have worked out - I wouldn't have hesitated to wear it or buy another one. Hope that helps.

  11. I'm with you guys @coopaloop1234 / @SaveByRichter35 on the prefer shorter arms bandwagon. Its part of why I tuck my chest because in going with off the shelf units - I'd rather go with a shorter-ish arm length (meaning I'm also stuck with a shorter-ish belly pad length). Tucking ensures there is no gap from stomach to upper jock. At any rate at this point I'm just used to it anyhow.

Thanks. @seagoaland I talked about it and in comparison to his, my wrist strap interacts with my C/A more than his.

Just wanting to get other viewpoints.

One of the bigger reasons I've loved Warrior gloves so much is the lack of wrist strap, so having longer arms on a C/A never bothered me, but trying different brands is potentially making me realize I may need some gear adjustments.

Right on. Like I said - my CA is broken in like a wet paper bag so if the glove pushes the arm up a bit - I probably wouldn't even notice it. My CA doesn't have arm adjustments (but is loose up where the arm connects). Suppose you could always shorten the arms if not via stock by punching some holes/adding grommets to go old school style on your CA... though with pricetags in the $500-$700 range - that isn't something I usually entertain. Good luck!

  13. @coopaloop1234 saw your earlier request for photos but since my gear lives at the rink - I wasn't able to oblige.

Anyways - that looks about right on your wrist to me. I'm wearing a Bauer Reactor-esque chest with G2 gloves so I'm in a similar setup to you. I do keep the wrist on my CA relatively loose (meaning I fasten it just enough to keep my UA from turtling back into the arm) and its quite broken in. I also do not cinch in any of the straps on either glove. These aren't responses to the gloves/CA interacting but just how I do things up. Hope that helps.

  14. @406goalie Dan painted my very first custom mask with custom paint job (NOT the one in my profile photo) I think shortly after he'd gotten into painting (?). Glad you had a good experience - mine was less so at least with communication/the process (and to be fair - was a number of years ago (2008 vintage)): long(er) than advertised lead time (less of a big deal) and misspelled my name (which was on my sketch, email address... AND the check I sent him) front and center on the chin drop (which seemed much more egregious than other bits of the process). Also didn't offer to pay the shipping back to him to correct the mistake. I was fine with the final product but the stink of the typo hung around until I got my second custom mask/paint job.

Last I had known he was getting more so into tattooing and the like instead of mask painting.

EDIT: Found a shot of said mask...

  15. Respect on the grandparents homage and sorry for your losses. Mine are in their nineties and I know I will miss them like crazy when that time comes.

Well done on the paint job - definitely captures the vibe of the era on the photo reproductions. Who did the paint?

Shots of my custom painted tribute mask to my grandparents.  They both passed away in the last couple of years and were Navy vets.

I’m currently in Bauer Ultrasonics but have Bauer Mach coming next week in the retail black.  Excited to get new photos in the new gear once the season finally starts in 2 weeks or so.

Not sure if any of you have seen this make it's rounds yet. But this happened at the rink I play at.

If you want a real laugh, look at his google reviews: Brandon Gee-Moore.

I wish I were more surprised by this clowns actions but sadly I am not. Second what others have said that I’m glad there was some swift justice here. Hope it continues and is severe for a severe action. No place for this in ANY level of hockey.

Also - kudos to the teammates that jumped in once they saw what he pulled.
