  1. I hear you on that. My pro aspirations have long been diluted, my EBUG aspirations are dwindling as well. Right now I'm just happy to still play at my age. My number is 60, then I'm moving on to trail running full time. At one point I actually thought of getting back into road racing with the masters, but then I thought differently and that's now on pause. I might eventually do a Grand Fundo for fun one day and test my limits. I agree, an over-abundance of calcium can have the opposite effect and create more damage.
  2. That word. That one goal that starts the uh oh crap and no matter how much shit or pep talk you give yourself, you're shook. It's hard to reset sometimes.
  3. @estogoalie Erik, want a reality check? I'm 52 and still pushing hard but realise that I'm not what I was before this damn covid shit. Played this summer in a league with mediocre hot headed, egocentric, hot dogging players and my game was crap because of it. I played an hour and a half Friday night with a bunch of ex juniors and seniors and held my own fairly well. Saturday night, played an hour with a bunch of mid level guys and my game was off. But then, a young guy asks me to join his group that followed after for a cancelled goalie. I accepted despite having no juice left. Might as well take advantage of free ice time I told myself. These guys were all some junior A/B kids, and it was some 3 on 3 full ice shit. Suffice to say I got my ass handed to me on several occasions. That sent a hard message to me. I'm not young anymore. My reflexes are not what they were. My recuperation time is less than adequate for 3 games in 2 nights. You had the great opportunity of playing at a high level for a long time and I commend you for it. I wish I could of had such an opportunity. If you do step down from competition, just focus on the fun of playing with no expectations from anyone...except your own. We will always be wanting more from ourselves when we know what we once were capable of doing in a game, once upon a time
  4. Maybe they hit a wall, or maybe they listened to the users and applied the changes, or maybe they are of the mentality now of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
  5. I find that for myself, as a competitive minded ageing beer leaguer, you self-analyse a lot "should of this or that", "why did I cheat instead of just staying with the puck carrier", "why didn't I hustle, battle for space or positioning or puck control", "why did I hesitate so much on playing the puck on the dump or missed pass". It takes a lot to let go. Much easier during pick up than in a real game where numbers and goals count. Even harder to accept when you are a coach as well. Reminds me of a quote from a coaching friend that you can use should one of your students catch a glimpse of your bad goal: "do as I say, not as I do"
  6. Aside from Matt Hills first impressions at Hockeyreviews, anyone here have game experience with this unit?
  7. Looking at the CHL tournament in Europe on Youtube, there are a few Warrior goalies. The brand is a clear sponsor of many teams and the tournament itself.
  8. I'm surprised I haven't seen any logo-less Warrior gear in the Worlds, be it Juniors, Men's or Women's. Bauer has always had a stronghold during those competitions.
  9. I know some of you are exploring this venue or at least considering it. I started, be it very small, just a month ago. It's confusing as hell but I'm trying. No big bucks in the books yet but time will tell as I increase my knowledge and investments. My go to platform/app is crypto.com Anyone else in the game? Care to share your experiences, downfall and success, lessons learned, tips and suggestions, etc? Any form of income is good in these times...providing it's legal and no one gets hurt, right?
  10. I went through the same nonsense from a previous job a couple years ago. I refused to participate based on the "voluntary" statement and I was shit on big time. Lost a days work without pay as punishment. Transparency is a lost art in the business world. "Say what you mean. Mean what you say".

Well that brings some form of comfort to my ears. Do you wear the knee strap across or down?

I can deal with a looser leg channel. A wide knee cradle, perfect. It's just the way the thigh rise sticks out, both legs keep beating on each other while I'm trying to do my thing in goal. I'm thinking that mine could of just been a 35" straight and do without the 1.5 extra and still play just fine.
  13. I'm not there yet budget wise but I will get me my truck sometime soon, most likely used. If Quebec roads and winters weren't so friggin harsh, I'd love to get my hands on this baby...

I will try a few things to see if it gets better and yes, they should soften up at the thigh rise I hope. Amazing that them being so thin, at the same time can be so stiff. Erik, the issue with you and I is that we are used to either a tapered or mushy thigh rise. The new stuff is totally different. Even my just sold Reactor 9000, they looked the part but something was different, despite them being from 2015-2017.

Second game in with the pads and I have a huge disclaimer: Saying these pads are "hybrid" or more traditional is a serious misnomer! They feel AND play like a modern stiff butterfly pad, period. Walking with them is awkward. Skating with them is awkward. The stance in them is awkward. They kind of force me in a wider stance. They play great in the butterfly but are nothing like they are marketed for. I appreciate the lightness, the ease of strapping, the solid butterfly, but the mobility is a challenge onto itself. Am I the only one?
  16. Not to ruin anyone's game plan but, watching some of Trav4's recent videos with Pasco Valana, he points out a few important things to consider before doing a Bob spec mod to your stick, along the lines of affecting the lie angle, down position and deflection control. You can see a few examples as he is doing the drills. In any case, you can still try it out for fun if you wish. When someone as recognised as Pasco drops some science, you wanna hear him out.
  17. So right now, what brand/model is most streamlined, not bulky or overkill? Big or small brands
  18. True. Either gloves feel nice in my hand and difference is very minute. But the T is much longer on the G5 in my eyes, which I'm not a great fan off. The GT glove looks and feels small on my hand and that suits me well. Better glove control for me. I am eyeing the GT2 though to match my pads.
  19. I'm guessing it's the G5? I tried one on today and although the closure was butter, I don't like the shape. It seems built long compared to my GT which looks rounder. Maybe it's just me. Now you need a family pic

I have a game lined up Monday, hoping for more in between. I'll let you know for sure. It's nothing like you and I are used to for sure. The original GTs aren't as thin in the thighs so the adjustment shouldn't be that drastic. I would of went with those had i been able to find pair in my size. Hence why the GT2s.
