Updates on the ol’ devil bunny

Yes- I signed in and answered about Factory Mad, so it is time to do an update.

I kinda had a few mental health issues mainly from trying to figure out my place. I am not quite the grizzled veteran of playing goal or hockey, for that matter. Yes- I played hockey as a youth, advanced to Juniors, then got an injury and took 25 years off. I got my competitive rocks off from cycling and duathlon, was a recording musician for a spell, then returned to hockey 8 years ago. But I did what I wanted WHEN I wanted, which was threatened by Ulcerative Colitis. The past year and a half really tested that, as I figured out that I TRULY loved playing goal and THAT was in jeopardy. The confidence lost from a very messy colostomy transferred to many places in my life, including how I behaved online. I took things too far and too personally.

A light in my life came when after four months, I finally got the pouching down where I was confident enough to play hockey once again. Of course scheduling got in the way. And I STILL had confidence issues due to some struggles with pouching. I did play hockey two weeks before my last surgery, which was a huge mental victory for me.

I had my (hopefully) last surgery to close the loop ileostomy last Tuesday (2 April 2019). I am in for a LONG road ahead until I have the confidence that I can play hockey, but have faith that in typical bunnyman fashion, I WILL be regularly playing once again.

I do not expect to be welcomed with open arms. During my snit, I burned a few bridges. I am still a work in progress. I will be contributing a bit more IF the moderators are keen, but I am keeping my behaviour in check.

If anyone wants to take a peek into my life as an Ulcerative Colitis survivor, you can do so by following my Instagram @goalieostomate .

Glad to see you are back here here posting. As you have probably seen, your input in a number of areas where your expertise shows was requested during your absence. You bring a lot to the table Doug - and he among us who has not had the need to throw the occasional stone in this forum feel free to lie, err self declare...

Wow- a better reception than I previously thought.

I do appreciate what @Colander said about where my area of expertise is appreciated. Thinking of what I had said in a private conversation, I have decided that there is no need for my snarky names or attitudes towards what I don’t like. That was literally me acting out; after all- Gary Bettman does deserve his do, for example. Whilst Wayne Gretzky being traded in the late ‘80s literally being the spark for the fire in hockey growth in the Sunbelt, Bettman’s stewardship literally helped grow the game in warm weather areas and beyond! DaveArt may not be my cup o’ tea, but he is a successful artist. As long as Bettman does not ban goalies or DaveArt does not vandalise my house, they literally do NOT affect me.

I figured out that my best place is to help, as this literally became my coping mechanism. I have answered a burning question for a few people who either were facing the question of whether or not they can play hockey again being in the SAME place I was. I hope that knowing that I got back out there on a few occasions that they figured out how to do it REGULARLY. Learning that you won’t wake with ALL of your stock components after surgery is headache enough; knowing that you can STILL play hockey is a relief!

Thanks for the nice words and I hope I can be an asset. And please- if you ever end up facing the removal of your colon and end up with an ostomy, hit me up and I will help you mod your gear to work for that purpose!

glad to see you back on the site. i might have mentioned before but i can't imagine how frustrating is must be to be in the same situation as you, playing goal and dealing with post surgery like that, i can say though i can relate to the mental part as i've been noticing myself getting easily frustrated, jealous, figuring out my place in hockey, etc. with that said though your input on this site has been greatly appreciated by many and i hope to see more of it for a long time.

It is tough when you found what you love to do. This is the only hobby that does not require tonnes of mental work when I do it. I take music WAAAAYYYY TOO SERIOUSLY!!!! That is why I have not gone back to that! So my future doing this for the sheer love of it really took a toll on my mental health. I had to go away from this until I could finally wrap my head around the fact that positivity breeds positivity.

Thanks for the kind words.

So when do we get an update on your mad scientist modification projects? For me, cutting a bit off the shaft of my stick is the extent of "mods," so I like hearing about your next-level what-nottery!

...and the pics of your mods are WAAAAAY better than the pics of your medical miscellany ever were... :shakehead: - LOL!

Stay patient, young Padawan. There are mods to be done. 1” off the top of my all black Vaughns. Faux puck foils. I did do a mod on my breezers to protect my stoma when I did get out and play. Possibly may be buying one piece Trues if I can confirm whether or not Overdrive blades can be installed. And (crass commercialism alert) will be showing my exclusive black coated Overdrive blades, as I had two pair out in the wild and they look the same as when installed! Yes- you can be one of TWELVE people who could own a set of black coated Overdrive blades. Yes, sir! Plenty of mods to come!
