  1. Believe it or not, that kinda is the make up of the groups that I play with, from a few older ex-Q/OHL/Junior/Juvie guys on the high end (taking it easy), to guys who've pretty much just started a few years back (some still with a good shot having played ball hockey all their life). I guess I should have said private pick up to be more accurate haha. I've worn only Passau's in the past, and I've only felt one stinger ever, and it was up between my armpit and shoulder. To this day I still can't understand how it got through (no bruise though). But it is way bulky and I'm having trouble moving in it, my mask keeps interfering when I turn my head and I also think it was made for a bigger guy so the belly never feels secure even though it may be. I'm pretty interested in the Padded shirt now that you mention it, and there's also a good mod shop that I think I can get to beef up the two areas that you guys have mentioned. I think I will go with the VE8 Pro and the Padded shirt and then go from there.
  2. Just Beer League, but some of the guys have played pretty high level. I'm currently looking for something that fits me better than my current Passau's, I saw a V8Pro for sale that is within my budget, but also saw a V9 XFP and got curious. Where is it soft on the arms? Would it be easy to just add some material?
  3. Hey fellas, I was wondering if anyone had any info on the Vaughn Chest XFPs, I can't seem to find much info about it, I've emailed Vaughn, but no answers yet. What I found was that it's a Pure Goalie SMU most probably (https://goalie.purehockey.com/product/vaughn-velocity-v9-xfp-goalie-chest-protector-senior/itm/42344-41/), but not sure where it lands, if it's XFP -> Pro -> Pro Carbon, or Pro -> XFP -> Pro Carbon
  4. On the subject of custom cage made by "Grilles Ange-Gardien" Maybe this is the wrong place to discuss this and please keep in mind that I've not played super high level nor have worn this grill. But having worked with cars and crumple zones, I don't know if having a super stiff/strong grill is a good idea in terms of impact absorption. The grill probably disperses it throughout the mask and it's fine, but I'm still a bit hesitant when it comes to it. I will say that one benefit that I do see is the geometry and the better sight lines.
  5. No this is great, and it's actually good to see that it won't show too much. So you've placed it just on knee block part? Or along the whole contact surface?
  6. This was my very concern. Would you for the time being be able to place a drop of liquid black tape or something to over the burrs on the screw?
  7. So I wasn't sure if my son wanted to continue playing Hockey this year, he's always been a bit lukewarm to sports and I never would want to pressure him into it (I just want him to have fun with a winter sport), and we will revisit the question next year I'm sure if he wants to continue. I'm not sure what came over him last weekend for his first game of the season, but he played so incredibly well, best that I've ever seen him do. Stopped about 5+ breakaways and only let in 1 off of a third rebound. I was so proud of him. He was stunned that he received the Player of the Game Golden Jersey, but it was unanimous by everyone who saw his play. I just wish I had more pictures of him, the only one I got was of him stretching/practicing while the puck was in the other zone (again something that he did on his own that I never saw him do before).
  8. I'm pretty sensitive to smell, and the only thing that I've found that worked so far on hockey gear is using a Lysol Additive (https://www.amazon.ca/Lysol-Laundry-Additive-Eliminates-Bacteria/dp/B0773X8ZR4). I've tried quite a few things, but Lysol and/or OxiClean were the only things that got stains out, and Lysol was the only thing that got rid of the smell completely (whereas ones cleaned with OxiClean the smell eventually returned). I've cleaned my C/A by soaking it in a bathtub with a few capfuls of it, and I've washed a few other gears in the washing machine by adding the additive in the pre-wash. I've contemplated using Dettol at one point, but the Lysol did the trick for the most part.
  9. Ah I'm sorry, it got sold yesterday. I wish I had checked this post before sending it away. I will mark as such.
  10. Could you show us what is available in terms of the goalie jerseys? Doesn't have to be a pic.
  11. I have a twice used McKenny GPT 855 Pro for sale for 50$ Canadian plus buyer pays for shipping from Ottawa. Let me know if you’d like more pictures. Nothing wrong with the pants, they are basically new, wore them once in practice and needed Mediums instead, tried them a second time just to make sure with adjustments. Could not return them due to time and COVID.
  12. I wonder if the new TF9 goalie holders will be better.
  13. This would honestly be good for my ODR/coaching skates. I'm thinking about getting a pair. I'll wait your review.
  14. I was lucky enough to find a gently used one of SLS. They feel really comfy when going down, but I find it kinda goes square just above my knee and interferes with my pad rotation. I wear large socks over it to kinda help it slip over and keep it in place on my knee, but yeah sometimes my pads don't rotate back fully. I may try another type soon, I hear good things about the Bauer 1X Vapor ones. Are you guys wearing a knee sleeve _and_ a guard? I have G-form knee sleeves that I use for coaching, but not worn it under my PAWs yet.
  15. Has anyone tried using a sous vide machine for their skates?
  16. Shame, I have a Passau large, and I'm finding it just slightly big. Arms fit well though. I'm 6', 180lbs. I might try on a Medium at a store the next time I'm out.
  17. Hm, it's a long shot but do you know if they fit a bit smaller than a Passau Large?
  18. Hello! I'm from Orleans Ontario, originally from Montreal (Go Habs Go). My age places me back when Roy was at his prime and made me want to play nets as a kid. My family at the time could barely put me in Hockey let alone get me goalie equipment so I played backup with borrowed gear and Defence growing up. Now that I've gotten back into playing, and my oldest has gotten into playing goalie, I've gotten the itch to play nets again so here I am learning the position. @Lucky Pucker has helped me quite a bit with information and suggestions, and turns out we are living parallel lives.
  19. Hmm, you might have to try the car out then, I'm 6' and my sight lines were on the upper side. Again this was previous gen, so things might have changed a bit. She also has the basic drivers seat controls, I think the one higher has an option to lower the seat a bit and tilt to allow better seating for tall people.
  20. My MIL has the RVR from the previous gen, she got a really good deal because of it. I like the looks of it too. It's fairly basic, but exactly what she needs as a grocery getter that's high enough so that she sits comfortably, and can get in and out without too much trouble. The fuel consumption seemed a bit high for a new car of that size, but they probably fixed that in the new gen. She likes it, but she doesn't drive it that often, most of the time she's a passenger on my FiL's HUGE Palisade. The trunk was def big enough for a player's bag, you might need to drop the seats for anything bigger. Also sticks would poke through the centre, but you have to do that with most cars anyway.

That looks amazing. I have to try to find some if I can. I've recently had Release The Hounds by BigRig, and that was decent until it got a bit warm.
  22. The extra electricity to charge is pretty negligible, less than 30$ a month when we drive a lot and don't optimize (the rate is for Ottawa, Canada), some folks who like to save even more have apps that activate charging only during off-peak, and only to 80% and all that. Full disclosure, we _are_ a two car family, and we do use our SUV for longer trips that require us to haul baggages and suitcases, and of course if you already have a car that has been paid off for decades and older for insurance purposes, it'll be a lot cheaper, and probably better for the environment as you're not putting a car into the ground and manufacturing another. So YMMV (literally), for our use case we use our Subaru for 5% of the drives, sometimes we even have to force the drive so that it's not just sitting there. I've driven all kinds of cars from Ferraris to 60s muscle, I've even owned a modded ZJ Jeep in the 90s (it was a different type of fun, Top 5 by far). But yeah electric cars' instant torque response makes for a spirited drive. I will admit though that I like odd cars, like the Jensen Interceptors, Citroen DS, etc.
