BadAngle41
So as some of you may be aware... I'll be taking a bit of a break from playing this summer with upcoming hip surgery... but that doesn't mean I'll be taking a break from gear. I have a new Passau Gen 2 Pro Pack on order... looking into modding my blocker for more pop... going to send out leg pads for a thigh rise shortening... and just received a new cage for my Wall mask. In taking the old bent cage off I thought I'd take the time to clean up scuffs and scratches to the OEM white paint... but then I thought maybe a chance to change things up some... If I just slap the cage on and leave white... Ivory/Light Cream Color & peel off Wall stickers for white layer... I just took the 961 SE Long Chin template from http://thegoaliearchive.com/goalie-template-archive/ as it is the closest to my Wall w/ a Cat Eye. As you can tell I'm not looking to do anything drastic but toying around with the idea of either a solid color change, maybe add a trim line along the outside edge, I dunno. Below are some pics of the rest of my gear and my main team's jersey. Side note... anyone know where I can get new Wall decals for the mask (either to apply directly or to use to mask off an area w/ layered colors)? BadAngle41
@Doobiesnax... please take note of this post... while i don't have the artful hands with surgical precision you do... any thoughts you may have would be appreciated.
coopaloop1234
Keep the white. That cream coloured mask just doesn't sit right with this Elitist.

I know what you mean. It's sorta weird. Not sure if it's just the gold cage throwing me off thinking I need to paint the mask. I mean worst case I slap on the gold cage... don't like it... god knows I'll have enough off time to send it out and get powder coated white or something. Man, I'm here thinking the gold on white looks great. Maybe some sport yellow/gold accents on the mask to tie it in?

I'm guessing the jersey posted is your team's jersey right? If so, and based on the fact that you have the retro tan set-up, I kinda like the white base mask. I think a red cage window (paint or vinyl) with the gold cage would look pretty sweet.
BadAngle41
@coopaloop1234 and @Doobiesnax... I am now in agreement that the white base will be the best route. Thanks for your input. Next steps will be... Light sanding Repaint white Mask off and paint the Wall logos (maybe add my number on the chin and/or add something to the backplate) Give it some good shots of clearcoat Add some clear rubber tubing to the cage itself

TheGoalNet
@BadAngle41 - matte white. Maybe do a crappy job with tha refinishing on purpose if you want vintage?

Maybe do a crappy job with tha refinishing on purpose if you want vintage? I'm still a little up in the air about certain aspects of the paint job... I do like the idea of making it look vintage... but it's probably best left to an airbrush to paint in what would be typical wear... and I'm not in the airbrushing game. Might slap my number on the chin... keep the essence of vintage through simple. The only issue I'm having is finding good scaled images for painting "Wall" on each side and the forehead. I'm comfortable with creating stencils once I have them... but it's getting them that seems to be an issue. Reached out to both Wall and some mask painters to see if I could get some help... crickets so far. Oh well. What do you think for a number on the chin... BadAngle41
Finished. Decided to keep it VERY plain. This was my first go at painting myself, and I definitely would do it again and add some style with more planning for things precut stencils etc. Overall I’m please with it though. Oddly enough, I went to the trouble of the clear tubing in the cage, but it doesn’t contact the mask anywhere. Double bar must keep its shape better during welding than a single bar. I certainly can't complain for it being my first time... but I'll likely re-do it this summer while I'm on the mend after surgery. Now that I have a taste for DIY painting I'm anxious to sand it down and do it again. Still stay white base but add some graphics on the back plate and parts of the mask.
