RichMan
Starting this thread cause the boys at the factory aren't much interested in marketing it seems. So I've been using their pants for about 2 decades. Good product! I'm currently wearing the 870 c/a with the previous 890 arms. Hate the elbows cause they are laced-in on one side only whereas the other side has extended (extra) nylon instead. Makes the elbow rotate sideways when putting the unit on which is annoying. Wish they'd lace in both sides instead. For reference purposes, I'm 6'2 190some lbs and I chose a large. (pics 1 & 2) I've been very curious about their updated 890 model. Looks bulkier than their previous years but quite solid. Has anyone seen or even tried it? (pics 3, 4 & 5)
RichMan
What I'm really excited to hear about is their new remodeled 890 pads and gloves. Anyone get a close peek at them?

Maybe they would do that mod for you. Their 870C/A reminds me of my old Vaughn 5500. How is the protection? Is it mobile?

I've had a few stingers in the arms but nothing to keep me out, then again I'm not afraid of bruises. It's fine for beer league, not sure I'd face the pros with it though. I have faced some ex midget and junior players and survived. It's clearly on the lighter side of c/a units.

Aquilzz
Glad to see them making a comeback. Growing up, we always got our goalie team pants from them. Fantastic sets of pants, hoping for a more "modern" version.
ThatCarGuy
Well, y'all know what happens when I get bored. I didn't want to wait for a customizer so here: I consider this my best template to date. I also used my template to get an idea of what the designs posted on McKenney's insta would look like: The top portion is probably wrong on most of these but there you go. ThatCarGuy
@cwarnar Yep. That's it. I used my design template to try and get an idea of what the whole pad would look like with those designs. I'm liking the results. Obviously I had to guess for the top portion of the pad. The top portion could be pink and I'd never know until full pad pics were released. Edited February 19, 2019 by ThatCarGuy

I agree, but I think it's more just design inspiration than a real connection between the two. I'm curious to know how much these will cost and how well they perform. kyledjean
Kinda disappointed in what I see from Mckenney today. They have strayed sooooo much from what they were. They used to be an intermediate level pad that was priced far below the competitors. Used to be a great pad for the kids who couldn't afford huge brand names like Vaughn, CCM, Heaton, Brian's ect. Now they are over $1,500 for the one pad they make. Makes me very sad. I wore McKenney all but one year growing up, wore them so much, that I was known as the checkerboard goalie. Pretty disappointing to see that they no longer offer a pad at a decent price anymore.
Drew37
Picked up myself a 895 Pro Catcher and 870 Pro Blocker today. Was a great sale at my local shop. Only had them on the ice for one session that for some reason everyone was shooting low so they didn’t get much use the first time out. Will update after a longer period with a more detailed review so this is more of a first impression. Catcher: So, so comfortable to wear. Has a 590 feel to it which is my most natural break so that helps but I don’t think I’ve ever had a glove that felt like such a pillow on the inside. Closes like a dream and that’s without any break in what so ever. Has a beautiful deep skate lace pocket that the puck just dies in. Had a couple times that the puck didn’t want to get out of it as I’m sure it was as comfortable in there as my hand but as I’m not the biggest puck handler I don’t think that will really affect my game too negatively. Blocker: Did a mod to this piece right away and removed extra protection from the index finger as it was getting in the way of my stick. Need to put the lace back in as you can see the holes in the one picture but that is just aesthetics. One thing I noticed while playing was that the glove was really tightly connected but as I looked at it, it has an adjustable strap that loosens the connection to the finger protection and once I adjusted that it felt great. Well balanced and very light. I love that both pieces have a large opening to make room for the chest protector arms and that they won’t get caught up on them. I obviously can’t speak on the durability but the build quality is top notch and rivals any piece I’ve had from the big boys so I’m not expecting to have any issues in that regard. If you have questions let me know!
RichMan
Just visited their website and, no chest protectors or goalie pants in sight. Have they decided to drop them?
