Help wanted!!! Potentially got scammed! Bauer profile 960 vs 950

Hi there, new member.. i need help identifying the cosmetic differences, if any between the bauer profile 960 and profile 950!  so I just picked up what I thought was a great deal on kijiji.. the guy told me it was a bauer profile 960 so I thought great I'll take it.. when I get there I looked it over it looked solid and in good shape but I couldn't find any profile 960 sticker anywhere.. I asked him several times if he was sure it's a profile 960 and he said yes so I took it.. but after I got home I looked some more and I can't find any way of making sure it's a 960 and not a 950.. ALL THE stickers have CONVENIENTLY been scratched off.. just wondering if any of you could help.. thanks!!

Seems alittle shady that all the stickers are scratched off that say what it is. Honestly the hard part is the 950 and 960 shells are the same shape and design now. Early on there was some big difference between the two. Price wise what did you pay for it and what level of playing are your using it for ?

I was wondering if anyone could tell by the foam used on it if the 950 and 960 had different foams.. I paid 200 for it which isn't bad  but I'm going up against some pretty hard shooters.. just really ticked that I might have gotten screwed

Honestly I would have asked the seller for confirmation.  Once he said all stickers are "scratched off" I'd have told him to kick rocks.  I am not a Bauer mask expert so I cannot help with any specifics.  I hope someone can confirm for you though!

Is the foam screwed in or is it glued in?

I did some checking online and depending on the year made both had the same foam in them. Purehockey and the Hockey Shop had the pictures that I seen. But honestly no matter how good the deal was unless the seller provided you with the proof you needed, I would have walked away.

From what I have looked up, the 950 shell is a Fiberglass with Carbon so its going to be a good shell. I use Fiberglass Protechsport with zero issues

It looks like it was made in Nov 2014 based on the HECC cert expiry.

So you didn't exactly get a 960. For the price you paid, either model, if no cracks or such, you got a great deal. I'm guessing a 950 is good enough, unless you're going for EBUG in the NHL/AHL/ECHL

Well I guess I didn't check it well enough I figured since I asked him twice on the spot I'd find SOME proof thereafter 0f it being a 960.. was such a good deal that I that I had the mentality of take it and run lol.. having a touch of buyers remorse that's all

Don't stress about it. I still hope the mask is in great condition for you. In retrospect, I've yet to see a used 961 sold for less than 400$ US and that was with chin or sidewall chips.

Like @SaveByRichter35 said, you gotta drill the seller. It's good to do the homework before you engage in the transaction. Masks are a really touchy market with lots of misleading info and many outside company reproductions.

This is why I'm thinking it might be a 950 instead and I hope someone can prove me other wise lol.. so here is the pic of my masks' foam.  Notice the foam with all the little holes?

Now here is the pic from purehockey of the 950.  Notice it has the same foam with holes

NO HOLES IN THE FOAM!

I have checked sideline swap and had found a bunch of 950s with the holes in the foam and SOME without the holes but I have not found a single 960 with the foam with the holes so I'd be interested if someone has seen the 960 with the holes in the foam?

You're right, I should be happy even if it wasn't QUITE the deal I was looking for the mask is in pretty much mint condition.. barely and chips and no cracks.. on a side note.. where's the best place to get a cateye for this thing? And do you think anyone would trade a cateye for a certified cage if I'd add a little cash on top?

The 960 of 2014 had glued in VN foam still. Probably is a 950.

961 cages should fit it no problems. 961 was what Bauer called the cats eye cage 960 mask.

Good call, I pulled up the 2014 Bauer catalog, the 961 does not have aerated foam.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'd guess you've been cheated on this one.

See below, key points are:
Aerated foam (960/961 does not have the holes)
960/961 foam is glued in, not "mechanically attached"

Does anyone have a 2014 960/961 HECC sticker they can post?
The one in question is tagged CC-09.  Maybe a true 960/961 from that year will have a different number.

I bought it on kijiji so I'm not sure what the buyer protection is there..  I mean in the end 200 for a profile 950 ain't bad.. I'll just keep it but I did contact him again and we're back and forth on it but he keeps insisting its a 960.. so I'm not sure if I should keep pushing the issue and ask for my money back because I do really like the helmet

$200 for a decent condition 950 is a good deal; not what you were told, but still a good deal.

Should leave a review on his profile, so other buyers know to be careful.

Keep the mask if you like it.  Just kill him with bad feedback that he is a liar.  You have all the proof you need right here in this thread if you want to fight it though.

Not much protection on Kijiji, I'm guessing it's like Craigslist in the US.
