I have a few clarifying questions, as there seems to almost be a “secret menu” of features beyond the Protechsport website: - What are all the colours of strapping available? - What are all my cage options? I know he offers a cheater, and I want one, but are there different versions? - What is the difference between black/cream foam? Thanks! I can only answer the last question: from what I recall on others' postings, the black foam is more of a comfortable foam than the cream. I too would like to know how many options for cages there are -- can one order any cage available from OTNY (I think they supply him)?

I think there may be only two cheater varieties. Strapping is only black and white unless that has changed. Welcome to the hole!

I've only used two types of black foam. The really rigid stuff Sportmask uses sometimes (doesn't lose shape, chip away, or alter in density) and then, as you know, the Jofa stuff in the 390. Is Michel's comparable to maybe the Jofa? Also is the EVA less durable than rubatex? You went with a matte white shell, correct? Do you find it shows wear or scuffs any worse than gloss? I'm leaning towards matte, but undecided currently. Finally, are the white straps the ones that are kind of cream coloured? Very old school looking? I prefer the creme foam in my Pro's Choice leaps and bounds over the EVA. I'd love the PC foam in my PS mask. But yes, EVA compared to Rubatex I'll take the EVA all day ever day.

So you don’t like Michel’s EVA foam, but you’ll take it over his Rubatex option? Why no love for the black foam?

Why no love for the black foam? Let me rephrase. I hate it when compared to what I have in my PC. Whatever it is that Dom uses in his masks is by far the most comfortable foam I have ever had in a mask. However, yes, the black EVA is definitely better than traditional Rubatex...in my opnion.

Ok fair play. I hate to keep asking, but I have no experience with PS... does the EVA compress a lot, and is it less durable? Thanks. I think the black foam does compress a bit compared to the standard, cream colored Rubatex. The black EVA foam retains its plushness over time though, whereas Rubatex stiffens up and becomes rock hard. I just pulled out my Protechsport that was built in 2010, which I haven't used for almost 3 years and the foam feels almost as comfortable as the day I got it, but it does seem a bit compressed. Durability compared to Rubatex? I can't say since I haven't used a mask with Rubatex for almost a decade... I haven't refurbed either my Theodore-mold (2010 build) and Bauer-style (2016 build) and the foam is still going strong. The foam isn't chewed up and it is not loose/falling out of the mask. Very solidly attached.

I’ve also never really had NEW rubatex, but that doesn’t seem to be a factor. @TheGoalNet what did Michel pad your CCM with? I tried searching for pics to see the matte white. I've only been using my PS mask on and off for about 6 months so I cannot comment on the longevity of the foam. I have heard that the EVA doesn't harden over time like Rubatex does, however, it starts flaking/crumbling to pieces.
Taco
Depends on the model for the cages. He has clones or special types of mask that only have one option, then others like the 00’s 3-earhole Lefevre with several types of cage Black foam is softer than the cream foam. I’d go that route, but the foam does wear down faster. Strapping is either black or white (cream) but he can put it outside or inside the mask for back plate painting.

Ryan W
Sorry guys. One last question before I finalize the order. Anyone have any experience with both the chin cup and sling or any advice. wondering if a sling would keep the helmet as secure or if it’s likely to shift more when you turn your head quickly? thanks!
